Hi!
I've been bothering several of the clever minds on the site, but seem to need a thorough walkthrough as i'm severely electrically challenged!!!! I got my engine back from a recreational stay at Taffy's yesterday, it's now reassembled but no lights!! While my engines been in safe hands i've been removing the battery as i don't wanna carry anything besides myself and my lights!!
To make a long story short, - how do i get my lights back?????? I kept the regulator, - and mounted it in front of the rear shock. Reconnected everything from the stator, but can't find a place for the red/black leads from the regulator. I suppose this could be where my lights are??

Hi , I realise that australia is a looooong way from norway but there's a company in australia that does amazing things with bike electrics like putting lights on motocrossers etc, using led type lamps here's the address http://smallcoilrewinds.com.au drop them a line they may do a kit suitable for your application.......colin

well it seems taffy will have to be consulted since there is no info in your post or signature as to just what year, model and size your bike is..... :?

If you want lights and no battery install a capacitor in place of the battery. Keeps your lights from flickering.

I'm sorry. The bike is a 2000 FE 400 with quite a few modifications. 501 head and barrel, lx cam and a few of Taffy's other tricks. First impression, - starts easy and feels like something much meaner than what i sent him:) Got the lights kinda sorted as well, i'm using some of the original wiring to connect the regulator to the lights and grounded it to the frame. Got flickering lights, will look into the capacitor suggestion.

Thanx

all you should have to do is connect the yellow wires to the headlite /taillight wires and tie in a voltage regulator/ limiter tied to ground. if its flickering at anything other than idle, you prolly have a loose or dirty ground.

I just take out the battery and starter and start switch and everything works fine. A little flickering at idle, I don't ever notice the headlight flicker, go figure...

Hi Ned

are we talking about the yellow wires from the stator?? And if we are, should they connect to the plug with in my case two red and a white/blue wires. I should probably try to post a picture?? Will this do to avoid flickering, - http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/erol.html#1331X0. I know you all love Electrex parts, but in my defense i ordered this before starting to use the forum.

uno,
didn't realize its an electrex. on the sem, there are 2 yellow wires which are the 12vac output. prolly the same on yours. best to take a meter on ac and measure what you get from the yellow kicking the bike. if its around 12vac, this is what you tie into the lite circuit, separate from the ignition circuit. to regulate the voltage, tee the 12vac into a grounded voltage regulator.
does it flicker at all engine speeds?

Ned
No the flickering is kinda variable, should probably check all grounds - again!! I don't use the electrex stator, think the Taff probably would rip it out?? When i ordered it i also ordered a regulator called RG12, but can't figure out where to put it to use. ( http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/erol.html#1331X0. ) Says it might prevent me from blowing out my bulbs.
