Horn re-location

Hi,

Have recently install some B&B radiator guards, i must say they are top quality! Only downfall is that the horn can not be mounted in the same position as before (bottom right radiator)

So my questions is where else can i mount it? Theres no room behind the headlight for it...

Any ideas?

Thanks

How about making an aluminum bracket, and bolting it on with the lower fork bracket bolts? I would also replace the horn with something that doesn't sound like you've stepped on a mouse. That's the first thing I did to my 570. Now it goes "honk" instead of "eeeeeep."

With BPB radiator protector it works in the same place using OEM horn bracket

Here is my horn mount. It faces sideways, which helps keep mud and water out.

I tried to mount the horn behind the number plate on my FE, but could not make it fit. I suspect there is room on the FX, but the FE is pretty crowded in there. Of course, I added LED blinkers with the flasher mounting behind the headlight, grip heater wires, and key switch wire, so my front end is really cramped.

Deeg,
I have an FE as well :) It's a tight fit but there's a hole just to the right of one of the plug harness brackets IIRC that I used. I had a harder time mounting my key switch so yes not much room. You have a proper pilots cockpit with all your goodies added on

I also have grip heater wires/control unit, keyswitch and an adapter for the map switch in there. It's just a case of re-arranging and tidying the OE wiring behind the headlight with zip ties etc. so it takes up less room and leaves some for the extras.

Thanks for all the reply's.

I would have mounted it with the original bracket if i could, here's a photo of the guards on my berg:

I think i might have to give this a shot, that way i won't have to worry about mud and water! Although i do like Deeg's mount, i might try make a bracket to mount the horn side-ways if putting it behind the headlight fails.

Thanks for all the imput! Ill let you know how i go with the re-location :D

Guys, the very first thing I did to my 570 when I brought it home was replace that pathetic horn. I wanted something that sounded like I hadn't stepped on a mouse's tail. As long as you're relocating the horn, I highly recommend replacing it with a low-note automotive horn.

Your right about the pathetic horn, My current horn is stuffed already due to mud and water. When i relocate the horn ill buy a better horn, I've seen some the same size but there much louder so i might give one of them a go. When you say a low-note automotive horn is that just the same as a car horn? I thought they were much bigger in size

Thanks.

Yup, a car horn. Same diameter as the factory diaphragm horn, but deeper. I hung mine in the factory stock location, and it required bending the facory bracket just a little bit. Now my thumper goes "honk" instead of "eeeeeeep."

Where is this hole? I can't seem to find it? Did you re-use the original bracket?

@ Pegscrapper how did you mount your horn behind the headlight?

Thanks

This mod works if you change the horn to one with guard over the driver cone/diaphragm. The stock horn has an exposed cone and i couldn't stop it hitting the light mask, which muted the sound. I used another horn, with a grill over the cone, and mounted it on an extension, M6 male to M5 female. Now it works well. Good spot to put it.
