Sold this 16-17 years ago to my godson, asked him earlier this year what had happened to it and he said he thought it was in a town called Ludlow not so far from me. His dad said did I want it back?

"You can basically have it but its a bit of a mess now"

Spent 5 years parked outside.

I won a championship on the XR, she was bored out to 280cc and a trail bike really but would always get you home, boring really!:p

Rear wheel rebuilt, carb refurb, brakes rebuilt front and back, evict the mice out of the air box, full service. Still needs a front disc and the rear shock is more bounce than damp but nearly there!;)

Yeh, she's a RJ 1988, 30 years old!
Forgot to say tyres, tubes, chain, sprockets, fork gaitors, hand grips..... the list goes on!
I remember buying her from a lad from Aberystywth, we agreed on £1200, he invited me in for a cup of tea telling his wife £800 was a good price! He'd stuck £400 in his top pocket!:D
The XR was probably the easiest bike to ride, last lap of a 4 hour 'hare and hound' no matter how tired you were the XR would get you home.

Also got a xr . 1996 xr 600 r

Classic- Geoff Ballard from Oz rode a 280 to all sorts of championships here- I'll bet you'll have to helicoil every bolt you pull out of the cases! And remove swingarm bolt with a sledge hammer! Check stator, as well

Hi there Guys,

I had exactly the same bike the 1988 XR, in the 600, hhmmm , drum brake rear, I think?

then to a 1992 model XR600

Funny, a month ago for ***** and giggles I picked up a 2002 XR400, just spent 15yrs sitting in the shed. 4000 km on it , mainly road miles. Boy, it needed work! Air cleaner fell out of the cage into the floor, ha ha, dont get me started on the mess cleaning out the fuel system after all that time... Then there was the brakes... Oh and everything rubber needed replacing, oh, except the fork seals, I am waiting for those to go shortly. Not a scratch on the engine side covers, headers presenting like new still, after all those years.

About the only bike engine, you would buy not hear it running a trusty old XR.

After a week tinkering, its a runner, the motors sweet.....1st,2nd kick...
