Honda beats Hbg to the punch with variable ignition

To my suprise, Honda was the first mfg to make a production bike with different ignition curves for different gears. The Honda crf450 comes with a curve for 1st, one for 2nd, and then one for 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and it apparantly works. I had suspected that the 2009 Hbg might come with such an item (recall Hbg was the first to have a high/low ignition back in 2002. Think about it, you can have a 550 bike that is docile as a 350 in 1st and 2nd gear, more like a 450 in 3rd and 4th, and then behave like a 550 in 5th and 6th, now that would be great as a woods bike. Heck, even the 2008 Aprilia RXV comes with a high/low switch that is said to work very well at taming the 550 in the rocks.

a power switch? that would be nice on a narrow hard rock face climb not to hook up so much 550 power. stop sending me into the trees or ditch half way of the climb when I loose position and over compensate with too much throttle. Heck my slow cushy DRZ 400 used to own that rock face w/ no Fear, but the 550 on rock is trouble brewing for a launch into the wall.

on the other hand on a deep sandy loose hill climb I want all my 550 power available to draw on when needed.

Dont forget the factory fitted steering damper on the CRF too...

Slipper clutches on the KTM 4 strokes.......

And thats their 08 bikes.

Husaberg is going to have to pull a rabbit from the hat with the 09 bikes, given some of the features coming as standard equipment on their competition.
