Homemade immobilazer

Hi all,

I just bought a new FE450s Force from the local dealer. I find it a bit troubling that there is no ignition key on this bike. There is a steering lock, but if the steering is not locked - a would be thief could just get on bike, pull the choke, hit the start button and drive away in seconds :?

I don't know how this is with other models, but has anyone thought of an immobilazer of some sort ? A hidden button to switch of the ignition and E-start perhaps, or something more fancy ?

I've looked at the wiring diagram for my model ... any suggestions or bright ideas from you guys will be greatly appreciated :)

How about a front caliper lock. Small sort of light , not too expensive, and will stop the guy who pushes your bike down the street to load it up.

On the other hand you can put a battery disconnect switch and that will stop the button pusher only..

I never took my key out but the sticker on the bike says I am an expert marksman :D

If your bike starts that easily - it must be faulty.

"Lights on to crank" is an idea that I was thinking of. This would not allow the bike to crank unless the parking lamp (if equipped) was turned on. My bike has high and low beam and a third position that brings on a small light in the headlamp housing. If you had this to, you could break the small power wire going to your solenoid and run it through a relay between terminals 87 and 30. Ground 86 and tie into the power wire that is hot when the light is turned on and run it to 85. Nobody will ever imagine that the parking lights would need to be turned on in order to crank over! If you didn't like the light idea, you could use a momentary switch hidden somewhere that must be pushed and held in order to crank. Then a good quality cable and lock through the back wheel should be good enough to deter all but the most persistent thief.

Just a thought.....

I bought my FE400E used and the gentleman that had it before me had rewired the on/off switch so that on was actually off and off was actually on. He said he did it for added security.......

It isn't a big problem ... but every once in a while a bike gets stolen. And I rather not have the sort which is easiest to get away with :?

I suppose I'll end up putting in a dummy ignition switch, wired and all but with no function at all. And then wire the thing so you'll have to switch on the park lights, push the horn and scratch your left leg to start hehe

It's ICELAND ! Even a 05 I bet you have to kick if it's that cold. :laughing5:

The kill circuit does bugger all - if you ground the orange wire off the CDI the bike stops, open circuit it you have spark. The first thing a would-be thief does is put cutters through the wiring loom & the bike will run. Very few wiring changes will change this. Perhaps you could put a hidden switch up under the tank that stays connected even with the loom cut. Once they cut the loom you gotta virtually rewire the bike to make it reliable. I've had it happen twice. The bike eventually got recovered each time but he second time the bike was a write-off.

I'd recommend a big padlock through one of the holes in the brake disk. To be surer put one in each wheel. At least the *******s have to physically pick the bike up to steal it. It is also a visible deterrent. A hidden switch isn't.

All the same, if the bike is going to get left in public places it is good to have it insured.
