blew the budget buying the love of my life so always interested in cheap arse mods. i was interested in the stegz pegz in particular as these middle aged fingers take a few days to recover after a solid day's ride. not to mention arm pump...

it looks like he's just machined some alloy to make a substitute for the real stegz pegz. these ones aren't adjustable like the stegz pegz of course. i don't know anyone with a lathe so figured it would probably cost me about the same as a set of stegz pegz by the time i paid a machinist to make me a set.
so figured i'd mess around with some door stops, washers and bolts for less than $10 at the hardware.
i had some alloy spacers lying around as the rubber bits needed to extend out a fair way to work properly. i'll test these out properly next weekend, but just rode up and down some steep hills in my suburb. verdict? for me at least the positioning was perfect. worked great on level ground and mild descents. then on steep descents i only needed to move the legs apart a bit to get around the rubber bits... something that you need to do with stegz pegz as well (unless you adjust them back to only work on downhill runs).
i used as wide washers as possible to prevent the rubber door stops from peeling off under force. only time will tell if they do last the distance and i'll have a better idea after two solid days of dirt bashing this weekend. i don't want to take sales away from stegz pegz but this may be a good idea for anyone who can't afford them, or at least wants to get an idea of whether they are worth buying. a few guys seem to buy them then just sell them again as they don't like them. others rave about them. got a feeling i'll be raving after this weekend, especially if my fingers aren't aching.
