Does anyone know a good jetting spec. for my 2001 Fe400e for altitudes between 8,000 and 12,000 feet? I currently have the stock jetting in place which is a 38 pilot and a 190 main. I have a 33 pilot and a 188 main on hand.
I was going to ask the same question. I live at about 400 ft above sea level and will be taking my '99 FE400 to Colorado on my annual hunting trip this fall. I will be in the 8000 to 12000 ft range also. So lets hear it from you guys up in the mountains.

I don't have a 400 so I cannot tell you for sure but I will say that if you have a Dellorto carb on your bike you should only have to drop your jetting 2 maybe 3 jet sizes on the main from the 190 I would go with a 185 or maybe even the 188 you have. The pilot jet should be ok but maybe pick up one smaller just in case.
Many people like the FCR Keihin over the Dellorto and they do have their advantages in alot of areas but one thing it cannot beat is the rezilliance the dellorto has to altitude changes without having to rejet. If you drop one jet size for every 2000 ft change in elevation you should be in the ball park. I have run my FC550 with a 5000 ft change in elevation without rejetting and could feel no difference with the exception of it seemed to start better!!! Go figure, maybe I need a bigger starter jet......

Your stock pilot will probably be perfect for 9,000 feet, you should be richer on the pilot at lower elevations. Your main should drop about 5 for every 3000 feet. 180 main if humid or raining would be a good place to start. 185 if very dry weather. You will want to raise your clip a notch to begin and maybe try raising it another notch when you ride.
