Just wanted to say hello. I just bought a new left over 2013 FE501 from KTM World. They are shipping it to San Antonio, Texas. It has not arrived yet, but I can't wait!
I know of a good set up thread on KTM talk "Wee Beasty" about setting up a new 350exc-f. Is there a similar thread here on the 2013 FE501 or similar? Things to fix, known issues, etc?
I weigh 185-190 in my shorts. I am going to grease the bearings (wheels, swing arm, steering stem) and axles, set the sag, then ride the stock springs.
After I break in the bike and change the oil I hope to dual sport this bike, add passenger pegs and a comfy wide seat from Fisher Seats so I can take my wife for rides when we go camping. No technical single track riding 2 up. Just 4wd roads, logging roads, Forest Service Roads, Big Bend Park dirt roads, Durango Co, Moab Utah, etc.
I understand that this is not designed as a 2up bike, but I think it is worth a try. I really don't like any of the presently available 2up factory bikes. They are all either too heavy and underpowered or just too heavy (KTM 690 Enduro). Back in the day we used to ride together on my 1976 Yamaha XT500 and more recently on the 2008 KTM 200xc.
Who can/will do any warranty work in/near San Antonio?
Can I do the first service myself as long as I document it to preserve warranty?
Thanks, Steve
