Hi new to the group just bought a 2004 501 pretty new to enduros really and can't wait to get out there ! After some help with starting looks like I have a de comp cable but think it's a choke? Bikes fitted with a dellorto carb any advice setting up? Also on the carb there are 2 small brass connections one on either side of carb are these vents as there not connected to anything? Any advice would be greatly appreciated , as I'm a bit wary of going out on it yet till I can get started easily! Was thinking about a beefy starter motor would this do the trick? Cheers Glenn

Welcome! I literally just finished cleaning the 40mm delorto on the 501 I recently picked up.... The brass fittings your referring to are for vent tubes. They allow the bowl to be at atmospheric pressure.

Hello Glenn
first of all you have a 2003 MODEL. yes, you have a handlebar choke conversion. it should also mean that you have had the auto decomp sorted with a stronger modified spring so it is ready now for a well set bike and to start.

sadly, the tappet clearances on Husabergs get out of setting VERY QUICKLY and this alone is enough to stop them from starting. the second reason is the carb which is out of tune and full of green manky-ness.

we made a big discovery last Sepotember or so when we started going to a /50 slide cutaway and the right PJ to go with it. that has made such a huge difference! just find us on facebook for the videos. you really can't believe the difference!

regards

Taffy
