New guy on the block. I had a KLX400 for about 4 years but never rode it because it was an unpleasant experience riding it to work and I didn't have anybody to ride with. Every time I DID take it for a run, it cost me $100 because the battery was invariably flat and had destroyed itself. (When I bought it, I had a riding buddy lined up, but after our first ride, he left his wife and moved interstate, about 10 hours away.)

So I traded it in on a 2013 Tiger 800XC 3 months ago.

Ironically, within a week I'd found an adventure riders group on the 'net and got back into dirt riding. On the wrong bike. I wish I'd discovered these guys while I had the Kwaka. I'd have done more research and not ended up with the wrong ride.

I did a 4 day adventure ride at the beginning of January and I got to ride a DR650 (dull and unexciting) and a KTM690 (**** me... SMILING!!!!!) So now I am looking to sell my Tiger. The bitch is just too heavy. I want to let rip in the gnarly stuff, but I'll destroy the bloody thing.

Riding the Kato was either the best, or worst thing i could've done that day.

Anyway, when I got home and started researching the 690, I discovered the new, smoother 2017 Husky 701...

Then I discovered the Beta 480...

Now I discover the 2012 'Berg 570. On paper it looks perfect for my needs. Lighter than the above offerings too.

I've found 4 with low(ish) kilometres within 200km of me and they're half the price of a new 701... (and my Tiger)

But I have a few questions regarding its discontinuation.

I would imagine that parts will soon become scarce, so would it be worthwhile to buy all the parts required for a top end rebuild now, while they're (assumedly) still readily available??? I understand that most of the bottom end are Kato compatible. I may be wrong. (highly likely)

I'm checking out all 4 bikes on Friday, so any hints on what to look for would be massively appreciated.

Final question(s)... (?) Is the Trail Tech mapping switch plug 'n play? Or will I need to unlock something first? Is there an underseat mapping switch already on the bike, like on the KTM690's?

That's it. Questions done...

Thanks for having me!

A most luxurious problem :)

I'd lean strongly towards the Beta and the Husaberg. I personally don't see the benefit in trading like 25 significant kilograms of extra bike weight for 20 not-really-needed horsepower as the 690 and 701 do :) I prefer the wider-ratio spacing of the EXC-style 6-speed gearbox that the Husaberg has over the 690-style box (it has been said to be a "supermoto" box).

Re. parts: Nearly all wear parts are the same as KTMs of similar vintage, I believe. The 70-degree motor basically IS the KTM motor that came with the 2008 KTM 530. There are some modifications of course :) but they're mostly the same - as far as my limited knowledge goes.

Rebuilds are generally rare on these too!

The mapping switch is plug and play. No mapping switch on the stock bikes.

For what it's worth I LOVE my 570. I love how it looks, how it rides, even how it SMELLS.

Beta has built up a presence in my area in the past couple of years or so. The Beta owners I know seem to be very happy!

Thank you. Great input, and the answer I was hoping for.

Pretty much sold me on the 'Berg with the first reply.

Oh! One other thing. Can pillion pegs be fitted?
