Hesitation around 1/4 throttle

Hi all, a few months ago I had a problem when the bike was warm and on tick over, say, waiting at traffice lights, when I tried to pull away it would sometimes cut out when I opened the throttle. I put a post about it and the conclusion was I lowered the clip on the needle one slot, this worked and I've not had one stall from the lights since but what it did seem to do was move the hesitation up the rev range to 1/4 throttle so when I'm going steady in say 3rd or 4th when I wind it open it hesitates and then picks up as usual. I don't know all the jet sizes it's running but I do know the main is a 205 and the only non standard part is a Doma exhaust. It doesn't stop me riding but occasionally if it catches me out in too high a gear it can cut the engine at 10-20mph.

Cheers folks

a customer in australia fitted a 152 mj today and said he thought he's just added a turbo? suggest 170 as the absolute maximum you need. if you get a misfire every 3 seconds like morse code that ia also a sign of 'way too rich'!

Taffy

1/4 throttle and under you are still in the pilot circuit (kind of). What is you pilot jet???

Doug, i like your certainty (kind of).................. brilliant!

I seem to remember from the Docs (yes cheers Taffy) that the Dellorto's and Keihins are set up in different ways and i can't remem ber wether Freaky has upgraded to an FCR or not.

Cheers chaps for the replies. Taffy, sounds like I'm much too rich on my 205 MJ then, 170 is a hell of a drop, I've never played with jetting on a 4 stroke, never had the need, done plenty of 2 strokes and am fully aware if you get it wrong you hole a piston, I presume too lean won't do this to my freshly rebuilt berg? It also pops and bangs a hell of a lot on the over run and the exhaust is sealed at all the joints, another sign of too rich?
Plumbbob, yes still on the Dellorto not seen a FCR cheap enough yet.
Mud400, not sure what pilot it's on, I'll have a look.

Regards Freaky

suggest that you experiment with a DR274 atomiser and try coming down small amounts on that MJ to say 195MJ etc.

that's if you want to experiment at all. i've a good idea that if you needed a 205MJ you may infact need a larger atomiser and then down on the MJ.

Hey Freaky,
I don't have any experience with the Dellorto's. I had the FCR's on my mind.
Good luck!
