Help runs great, then dies

The berg is driving me nuts. she starts first kick, runs awesome for 35-40 minutes, then starts acting up. Won't idle, kick starts with choke and a little luck. If Icoast down hill it will start and takes a few seconds to clear itself out, then runs awesome until I let it get near idle again. When I put the battery on a tender after the ride, it went strait to a storage charge so the battery( Brand spanking new) is fully charged. Any ideas?

Sounds like it may be due for a carb overhaul, needle and needle jet. Just my 2 cents.

I don`t know if this will help but have you checked the fuel lines, carb? Then it clears out sounds like something wrong with the above. While I was into it check all the electrical connections for say a bad or loose connections, don`t forget the ground wires. It`s not much but it might point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.

bksavs-

I would check your carburetor to see if everything is clean, check your jets for clogs or obstructions. also check your float height. Do this and report back on what you find. No doubt others will want to know (as well as you) what your carb set-up is. Jot down all your jet and needle sizes and post them up with your findings. Also, if you haven't already done so, wipe out the intake boot and frame backbone where the air filter screws to. This area will accumulate oil from the breather (unless mod has been done) and will cause hard starting and other symtoms like you described. Because you are riding for 30min at a time this would lead me to believe your electrical system is good.... probably your fuel system somewhere along the way :thumb:

Regards,

My bike had almost the same symptoms as yours. First I took the carb out and cleaned it. Mounted it back--- nothing changed. Cleaned the air filter---nothing changed.

Then I changed the spark plug and used WD40 on any junction of the electric system I can see or reach. My bike turned back to life.. I don't know how.. But it's great now.

So before doing anything serious.. just use wd40.. maybe a new spark plug.

Worked for me :)

good luck

maybe your tank is not breath well, try to remove the little hat from the tube on the gas tab.

After reading the replies I thought of something else; make sure the plug wire is tight in the coil and also the cap. That is a easy one to over look.
