HELP PLEASE, static and rider sag

Decided I should set my static sag and rider sag on my Berg 390
Peeps on here suggest 35mm rider sag and 105mm rider sag.
I've took the shock off to alter the preload on the spring, managed to get 106mm rider sag, but my static sag is 27mm.

To achieve my rider sag I'm losing my static.
It's a 72 -250 spring, measured 248mm when off the shock now measures 237mm.

I'm 13 stone 2lb, do you think I maybe need a harder spring?

Just backed off my preload two turns, have now got 35mm static,
BUT rider or race sag now 121-123mm. Any ideas please?

You definitely need a stiffer spring. When static sag is good (35mm) and the rider sag is too high (120m in your case you need a stiffer spring.

The bad news is that if you need a stiffer spring for the rear, you need stiffer springs for the front too.

I have rider sag, too.
My doctor mentioned a stiffer spring.
It didn't help.

I'm sorry.

with the fork caps about level with the top of the yokes I think you need a race sag nearer 90. you can go for less but as 97+ I find the spring too weak.

I have an 80 spring here somewhere. get an 80 and go for 95 sag. set the fork height to corner grip. the lower you drop the clamps on the legs the more corner grip you get.

the shim stacks in the rear shocks are very weak and I went through the FX stack and then some more.....

on the front I think a set of 46s which I thought were standard? can't remember set here at the keyboard?

regards

Taffy

don't be sorry, it was bound to happen at some point.

ugh, thought that just happened to women, but apparently things don't stay as firm on us either? it's not attractive...

There are pills you can get, I tried them.

Didn't make me ride any faster, and I got a groin strain.

Yeah. I even managed to get my money back on the pills.

The spring idea sounds pretty good until you realize that springs are always stiff.

It's a problem.

My problem goes away completely when I'm on a different ride, especially if it's a newer model.

Then when I try and sling my leg over my normal ride, the problem returns.

Maybe it's psychosomatic?

Oh, I've heard about the "ride-it-like-you-stole-it" approach. But I've never actually run into anyone who had tested its validity and effectiveness first-hand.

Do tell!

Well it starts from the moment you get in the sadle, depending on age, some are more supple and forgiving, and others firm and responsive, but both give you great feed back and beg you to ride harder and faster than I normally would dare.
The absence of the familiar and responsibility gives you new confidence. It renews my enthusiasm, and reminds me why I ever got involved in the sport.

I fear I may have gone to far, and now I am the one that is sorry. :|

Motivation seems to be key, and of course perception is central to motivation.
If the ride itself is perceived to be unpleasant or undesirable, then there won't be much motivation to ride it.
And even if a ride becomes unavoidable under these circumstances, then one might not expect to ride one's best.

Why don't you two skip over to the gay banter forum. :D

Back on topic, I have sourced a 76 spring and will set the sags tomorrow.

Gay banter?

I tryed the 76 spring, which is what the manual suggests for my weight, but although I could the correct rear ride hights in the rear, I found that on the track it still ran to low in the rear (maybe 'cos im a lanky git)I then put an 80 in there and now it's great. I've only gone up to 7.6 on the front, it's fine for the riding I do. If I was to do more mx then maybe go up to 7.8.

Check out the set up lists in the suspension section.
