Hi,
The posts on this community have helped me a lot already!
I will try to keep this short.
Last year my engine seized (Husaberg FE 390, 2010) while riding. I have changed the cylinder, piston, rocker arms, cam chain, etc… After these changes the engine worked again. But after letting it idle and revving it a bit, I started to notice a ticking noise. I took my head back off to check the timing, cam chain etc. Everything was within spec. I let it run again, and again that ticking noise from the piston, especially when I rev it a bit. I started thinking that my oil isn’t circulating well and that this was my main problem. I have checked my oil pump gears, those look fine.
But I have a question regarding the oil pump rotors. There are two of them, when I turn the bottom one manually, some oil comes out, that one seems to work. But the upper one does nothing when I turn it. Could this just be because of the drained oil? That there’s always a bit of oil in the bottom so that’s why the bottom oil pump rotor ‘reacts’? Or is this a sign that the top one needs to be replaced? If so, I’ll have to split the engine block I suppose? I can’t find much information about the Husaberg oil pumps.
One other (very stupid) mistake was that I haven’t checked the bottom oil screen when I did the top end rebuild. I now noticed that one was full of black plastic crud. Could this be the main reason that not enough oil was pushed up to the top of the head? The top one looked alright. From where could these plastic bits come from? Overtightening (I have a manual tensioner) the cam chain?
Thanks a lot!
