Help! Not charging...dead rectifier?

Hi, i wonder whether any of you can help. My bike is an 03 fs650e and isnt charging, its got a single rectifier unit as opposed to the two units i have read some bikes have? The link below isnt my bike but is the same unit:

I have checked the output from the stator which is between 10 and 50 volts AC, 50 only at very high revs, it is around 25 ish at medium revs. I think this is correct? However, the output from the rectifier is non existant at idle, about 2 volts at medium revs raising to about 4.5v at very high revs. There is continuity between the black/white wire and ground. Does this mean its a dead rectifier or is there anything else i should check first?

Finally, if it is a dead rectifier, do i need the correct husaberg one, or can i use something else more readily available from another bike?

hopefully you are reading dc volts from the rectumfrier. if that is dc volts, remove the rect and clean the mounting point and remeasure.
and a regulator/ rectifier from a medium size jap street bike would work as long as you knew what wire did what.

Hi, thanks for that.

Yep im reading it from the rectifier in DC. As for cleaning up the mounting points....mine is mounted on the plastic mudguard so its not going to earth very well like that anyway! I assume its meant to be mounted there? It certainly looks original.

For a replacement, do you reckon this would do it? :

ya, my bad. my alzheimers is kicking in again... too many bikes.
make sure the blk/white which connects to brown which is ground is clean. do yer measurements at the blk/ white.

Also make sure the battery has not gone open-circuit or is completely knackered. If these regulators are not connected across either a battery or large capacitor, when you measure the output voltage, the reading on a normal meter will be extremely low.

There are a few posts in UHE as to why. If you do a search for the words "three phase" in the forums you will get most of them.

The photo you attached is a normal three phase regulator/rectifier. I have still to fit a replacement to my bike, but I have RGV250 and a TL1000 units I could use.
