Hi I have a 2005 fs 650e and I am constantly loosing oil. if I look in the frame it has traces oil oil in the frame. I have blocked off one of the breather holes and connected the other to the frame with a sponge filter. how do I stop the oil from leaking into the frame. I'm wondering what everybody else does for there breather mod. Thanks

Where is your oil level? at bottom of the glass cold, or middle of the glass after a ride?
How many miles/hours on your bike? Do you mono it much?
I dont have any breather advice, but more info is needed.

I'm always adding about 100mls every 160kms. I try to keep it just at the bottom of the window when cold. the engine was fully rebuilt last winter at 90hrs, it now has 155hrs and 11,000kms. driving to work I drive at 125-130kms per hr at 5700-6000rpms. I use this bike for everything. supermoto, mx track, commuting. when I go to the mx track or supermoto track the engine is revving higher so I loose more oil, when I clean the air filter and look in the frame there is evidence of oil.

when I go for a sunday drive with the girlfriend (driving slower 100kms per hr) there's no oil loss!

to me the problem is the oil 's going up the breather tube and into the carburator. I have already blocked of the rear vent tube and ran a direct hose from the front breather (with original sponge filter in it) to the frame. does any body run a catchcan with a filter on it?

another place you can put a check valve is over this hole

it pretty much eliminates pulsations and oil loss without running the rockers under a vacuum, I run a car petrol filter over the end of the breather

But then you are running a separate oil line to the rocker box and oil mist is then not needed, without the oil line the mist is good for your rockers, lubricating the valve train.
I'm running a separate oil line too, have nearly no pulsations and can run low loss oil, and there is no noticeable loss in spite of the very simple breather hose used, a duckbill valve on the open end of it to keep water and dirt out is all there is.

Good luck.

Looking the modification with non-return valve and i'm interested what is the nominal pressure on breather?
For what pressure non-return valve need to be supplyed?

thanks for the threads BERGER, alot of good reading in there. I have ordered a napa check valve and will install it this weekend. I will see how well it works.

ah yes, I added this check valve before the oil line to the exhaust rocker. I could go back to the NAPA external one now but the intake rocker is still drip/mist lubed and the external valve is a heavy cumbersome thing.

FWIW anyone wondering if this idea is "safe" the older bikes do not have this hole at all which is why you won't notice much of a power gain running the external valve on them, they are basically set up like mine already. perhaps also the reason that some of the older bikes have very little blowby with fancy oils

i had the chrysler one way emission air pump check valve on my old berg for a few weeks, i noticed slight muffled exhaust note, oil leaks from shift shaft, kick saft, clutch shaft, output shaft, i now have three layers of "screen door repair kit" screen sections installed onto breather outlet pipe (front of head only on old berg) clamped tight between outlet pipe and breather hose thats running up, right, and down, near front edge of right tank lower side/right boot area, with oil level at super max went nobbies2pavement 20 miles@50-100mh with avg. 80mh with 3-5? oil drips worth of mist...ill take it, two of my leaks also went away and the others became seepage again, will be trying the genius royal enfield style duckbill valve before next major offroad ride, see them available at vintage auto spares.com from someones previous post, is this something a local part store would have? i asked mine and they thought i had lost it.lol maybe theres a different terminology they might knowd
i didnt notice any power difference with or without valve or when switching away from frame/airbox oil dump, i thought about going back to stock just to try it again for comparison but havnt done it yet

breather mod- usually to stop the oil from entering the engine when 'off chamber'. but yours sounds like [[any of these guesses or any combination.]] malfunctining reed valve. breather mod that doesnt choke breathing.
