Hi, I'm new here

Just got myself a 2002-but-first-registered-2010 fe650 in SM trim. Complete with water leak (I hope). In the process of sorting this with the help of loads of useful info on this forum.
It's not my first SM. Had a very nicely tuned (Thanks to Craig Taylor) CCM, back when I was merely too old for that sort of thing. Now way too old, so let's go...
You'll probably be hearing plenty from me asking for help and advice, so sorry and thanks in advance.
The Cowcatcher started mellow and ended up crazy. The Berg is crazy already.
Ed.

Hi!
Crewe area. Haven't seen any other Bergs locally. Mate had a 650 just like mine, but he's gone orange. Then again so did Berg at the end..
Been out on it, leaving a trail of coolant, and the top end hit is addictive. Can't believe anyone green lanes these.
One review said they sound like a washing machine full of Lego. Mine sounds like a biscuit tin full of broken glass. I'm telling myself it's ok. You may be hearing from me...

Hi Ed,

you need a louder exhaust so you can't hear the rattles! It shouldn't sound that bad though.
Greenlaning is no problem unless you've got a twitchy right wrist, they chug through and up anything when they're set up right. And you need the right incentive too!:eek:ccasion5:

Good luck getting it sorted,

Carl.

Exhaust is plenty loud enough. Venom straight through thing.
So...
Tried to get water seal out, with no luck. Clutch cover off and got it out from behind, as it were.
And it was in the wrong way round (spring inboard). Shaft looks good with no groove, so new seal ordered.
More interesting, the primary pinion nut was loose. I mean not even finger tight. Makes me wonder what surgery has been carried out.
Not even thinking about what else might be loose.
Maybe I should move all this to a new thread.
"Ed's MotoRetard" perhaps?

That'll explain a lot of your rattle then.....hopefully you won't find anything else too bad.
