Hello Everyone, I’m just getting into riding. Haven’t ridden a motorcycle since I was about 14, I’m 35 now. I recently purchased a 95 FE501 having trouble keeping it running at the moment. I am interested in turning it into a street legal dual sport and titling and plating it here in Indiana. If anyone has any suggestions they are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks, Antica

Hi Antica, welcome.
Taffy is certainly your man for alot of parts and know how to get these bikes running spot on. [emoji106]

I have a fe650 which I currently run as a full enduro, however alot of my riding recently has been on tarmac so I'm going to swap back to a dual sport setup with my motard rims and block tread tyres so it does the best of both worlds.

I much Prefered that setup, was great fun on the road and also pretty capable on the green lanes. [emoji106]

Post some pics of yours up if you can.
Cheers

Thanks for the warm welcome guys !

Well I purchased this bike and it had been sitting for a little over a year, but had been gone through pretty thoroughly by a KTM shop here in town. Carb seemed to be pretty clean, new spark plug ( looks like it was never used) My biggest issue is can’t get the bike to cold start. I can usually get it to start by pushing it down a hill and popping the clutch, then it seems to run fine. What is the trick with this beast ?
I’ll post some pictures soon.

well the idle must be set high enough for it to catch and run. people make the mistake of a low idle and then the bike can't start at that idle.

check your plug. if it's getting wet then you know you are getting fuel but perhaps too much!

generally with dell orto, you have to have the choke on for a couple of kicks, then off and then one of the next 4-5 kicks will catch it and you're away. but they won't actually start on choke!

valve clearances are a bugbear with them. especially the inlets.

Hey Taffy, do you have or know where I can get a replacement intake ? The rubber intake from the Carb to the engine on mine is in poor condition.

i do an alloy stub with a double female rubber. it's on ebay Uk and on my web shop. just put in 'stub' and it'll show....

I finally purchased that Intake stub from your shop today, Taffy. Lookin forward to getting her put back together and running smoothly.
