G'day new member here. Just starting riding in Australia, have ridden farm bikes and what not over the years but not dirtbikes etc

I found an 07 450, low ks and hrs very clean and probably not done much offroad by the looks. From reading main areas to look is water leaks, oil leaks and service history.

No real service history, motor is clean will take it for a ride next inspection check for noises, timing chain tick etc

I would think on purchase check of the water pump and circlip?
Oil change filters etc
Valve check and adjust. I have done this on older cars so should be straight forward and found a service manual thanks to this place.👍

Thanks

Hi from Greece .First of all flush your engine oil with a good cleaner and change oil filter and clean them all very good with a brake cleaner . Adjust your valves . SOS , Change your cam rollers and bearings if you dont have double valve springs . Replace the water pump sealants & bearings and add a good anti thermal coolant like amsoil ( have 132 c boiling point ) . First add a water dry fuel like wynns in your tank and and second a good fuel cleaner . Next put electric grease in all electric connections and dont forgett the ecu . All these is a good start . The climate between our countries is very similar . So .... 5W50 at winter below 20c and change it every 10 hours and 10w50 at summer over 25 c and change it every 5 hours . dont use heavier oil like 10w60 because you will ruin the Torque Limiter of e starter . I use amsoil the last 20 years on my fs 650 and all of my bikes and cars .

Thanks BERGOROADRACER.

First things will be oil flush and change, filter clean and oil and valve check and clean and check chain oh and coolant change. I saw someone do a 1/6th turn method is

Comes with some spares like KTM springs brake pads spare rear shock and spring , new chain guard etc. Hasn't been sitting doing nothing for all that long just hasn't done alot of hrs.

ECU?? I was figuring not EFI?? WIll check ignition connections etc.

Hi friend .i did some of these the last weekend on my sons bike . take some ideas from the photos . the connections lube is very important especially the ecu , efi or not .keeps the hudidity completely out from wires conections . here some uses on the bike , fork & shock seals , chain orings , coolant hoses and keeps everything rubber like new for many years .

Yep I use marine grease and antiseaze grease when putting stuff back togethre or even a touch of oil on bolt threades etc Never used in on electricals like that but makes sense. Also I assume it keeps fork/shock seals nice and supple. Grease my coolant hoses on the car etc

I use Amsoil marine grease too but never in contact with rubber and plastics . my suggestion is silicone grease , not NLGI 2 grease .this grease destroy very soon plastic and rubber parts .For use in electrical switches ,brake clutch levers , cables and fork stems use this wd 40 not the classic wd 40 in blue bottle .

I'll find some silicone grease for plastics electrical etc. I use inox lanolin on my boat and outboard so good for keeping metals clean and rust free. Deposit paid so hopefully have it home next weekend.

Bike is home...after busy weekend putting together a list. The oil in the window looks muddy not creamy def not clear as it should be especially when running so oil and filter change to do first. Will pull the water pump cover and check the pump wheel and components.

So far though she starts straight up easy when cold with the choke out. Pop the choke in after 20.sec and she still is fine.

Water pump impeller and circlip looks good and coolant looked fresh so that's a start.

Did an oil change new filter...when running what does the oil in the sight glass look like normally? It looks white an foamy like. But when not running looks fine. The oil i dropped out wasn't milky.20230619_140357.jpg

Did some searching here and a few pages in found aeration is normal will let it warm up and see if it changes once warm.

I think you need a better quality oil . Then try to change the inside oring and put a little anti seize paste on the shaft .Thiw will keep the shaft anti rusty for many years and buy a good very good quality anti thermal coolant .Change it every 6 months . The AMSOIL have 130 c boiling point .A radiator cap at 2bar will help you a lot .

What does your oil look like in the sight glass when first starting? There appears to be no water in the oil. I'll check the coolant specs and pull it apart further to lube the o rings or replace next oil change.

Oil is good Australian brand Penrite 10w 50 semi synthetic no full synthetic 10w 50 at the time. But figured running for less than 5 hrs and will change again.

I know penrite oils very well . Not good at all for me . Its not a big deal .The dealer in greece was my friend and closed his shop after a year . Never but never use semi synthetic on a husa. Is USELESS in a hour . Check your manual .
