Just bought my 1st trail bike yesterday :eek:
So im a complete newbie (on d bike n on forums)

Im sydney based but heading up to north QLD at the end of the year on holidays, so the plan is to get some real use on the bike up there. (driving up not riding)

hopefully can get some usefull tips from you guys, so i dont put the Berg name 2 Shame :eek:

Re. riding tips, I got a lot out of the Dual Sport Riding Techniques DVD (and the Advanced disc 2). They're by neduro, he's pretty well known over on advrider.com. The discs have riding training exercises to do - not rocket science but really help put things into context.

What kind of bike did you get?

Hopefully get a chance to give it a run today (as i dont count riding it up the driveway yesterday as a run, lol)
 
hahaa hell of a first dirt bike!! not a bad choice though - super stable handling, lightweight, torque up the wazoo ... in some ways easier to control than a dr-z for instance ... you have some two-wheel experience it seems like?

set the suspension up! set rear sag, suggest going to stock clicker settings as a baseline ... its stable handling can turn quite heavy for instance, if its too low in the rear, will feel uncontrollable
 
and keep up with the maintenance, learn to know the sounds of the bike ... maintenance is imo a pleasure on these, easy and satisfying to work on, regular tasks at least ... first time is trickier but still not actually tricky, next times a breeze

decent oil, frequent changes, check and adjust valves - screw adjusters = easy

if it's jerky or surges or power feels lumpy at all then clean the carb, a friend's 650 was smoothed out a lot by that - they should be amply powerful, having taut muscley power, but not bursty or jumpy, no "hit" on those bergs i've ridden, just a controllable tidal wave of force

Any tips on setting up the suspension (or i guess there r threads on here 2) im 95kg and i will be riding with the gf on the back 47KG some of the time (alot when on holidays)
rear suspension is set very lose nut is only 1cm from the top of the thread, that must of been y it was a little loss at 80km/h with us both on (road)

the bike is really tidy (look like new actually) 7'000km on it.
runs great, and smooth as far as i can tell. (not that i have opened it up yet).I will put a pic up soon (& work out how 2 do it)

Lats bike was a Honda H100 100cc of pure 2 stroke grunt LOL (with a top speed of 80km/h), commuted to work afew times on it when i had my L's.

so im still pretty fresh to bikes and have always been a car boy.(still am) Pretty handy in car mechanics so hoping that will convert to bikes 2.

Few things i need to do on the berg are
- Get a work shop manual for it (done THANKS)
- put a tacho on it
- have a kill switch or ignition switch of some discription (or a big arse lock) just incase i do take it to the shops
- pegs 4 d GF

OMG no Berglsmerg that would make her dirty :) lol

yeah 4 a 10yr old bike its supa tidy, no marks on the plastics on anything.
we actually just went to have a look at it rather than buy a bike cause all we wanted was a bigger than 250cc bike that can do some offroad stuff. KTM was high on the list thats when i found bergs (n this site) and thought hey y not.
after seeing it it was so tidy, 2days later im am the new owner :)
