Mick check out the yellow and brown wires especially at the headstock had a broken yellow on my 550fe with the same symptoms also you need juice on yellow at the switcch......colin

Is this one of the bikes that uses an AC system for the lights & a DC for the starter etc? I thought the Kokusan '04 model was the first to be like this? Is yours SEM or Kokusan ignition?

Here is the 2003 diagram.

RE: Wiring Diagram

hi thanks for getting in touch, bundybear, yes its the ac system for the lights and dc for everything else,im not up on the electrics and how they work as this is my first hussy but ive found out you have to learn fast to run one, i think it runs from the stator and also theres no brake light either she starts first time on the starter so theres no problem of spark i think it might be a electritions job the onlr thing is im going to have to be there as i dont think (i no) he wont be able to start her,joe im sorry mate but nothing came through on your download, cheers mick

RE: Wiring Diagram

mick

you have a light circuit from the ignition switch? i suggest you may have a wire off at the ignition barrel.

RE: Wiring Diagram

hiya taffy ive checked the ignition barrel and all seems well im just going to do the worst and check all the wiring its a pain in the butt cos you have to keep putting the tank back on and off all the time to get it started to test the thing but hey thats life cheers mick

Sorry, should have done my homework better before replying. The wiring diagram in the 2002 owner's manual shows the AC/DC electrical system but the '03 is all DC as is the Kokusan '04. Is it possible your bike is actually an '02?

You can get free copies of your manuals at http://www.husaberg.com/Downloads.33.0.html

Anyway, you said yours is the combined AC/DC system. Have you checked the bulbs themselves? If both are blown then chances are the regulator on the AC part of the system is not working. Replace one or both then start the bike but don't rev the engine. If the lights work it proves the rest of the wiring is OK. If they do light be careful if you rev it - chances are the new bulbs will blow again.

If this is the case, check the connections to the AC regulator - it should be connected across one yellow and the blue wire from the stator. If it is connected OK it is probably stuffed. I know of a couple that have died before from what looked like vibration. When they stop working the system voltage usually goes sky-high. They can be repaired but are not that easy.

Mick can i suggest you get a fuel tank off an old four stroke lawn mower and use that way it's not very big and you don't have to keep taking your big tank on and off.
Regards Pids

That would be the one Steve and thanks for the idea by the way!

hi all, first of all id like to thank everyone for their input on my problem and for the great idea of the lawn mower fuel tank, i cut off all the connections and started from the beginning which has solved the prob for the headlight, the tail light bulb had blown due to me washing the bike and then shorted it out down at the rear foot brake pedal , a new bulb fitted and im all legal again, the only prob now is when i rev it up the light goes dimmer rather than brighter does anyone no what ive done now cheers mick

Your A/C regulator is going bad, change it out, it's shunting too much voltage to ground when the voltage level comes up.

Also, get some die electric grease and coat your blub bases enough so that no water can get into the socket. You might also consider putting this grease on all the exposed connections to keep them from corroding.

Bundy Bear,

My 04 550 came stock with AC lighting and rectified DC for battery charging.

cheers thanks alot, ive done everything you said so lets see how long it lasts??????????????????? thanks again
