headlight power

Hi, I just got my Fe450 about 3 months ago so I thought I would join here.

I was wondering if the stock electrical system would be able to power a HID head light without an upgrade.

Right now I have a 55w halogen by BD. Would I be able to safely power a 100w halogen if I did not get a HID light?

09 and 10 will handle the HID fine. 08 -04 would probably handle it, but I would recommend an upgrade at the stator and regulator.

you need dc only to run hid so check what yours is, alsp hid is lower wattage, about 35w

Does anyone know if the '09 is DC only?

Yes, it is. You are going to want to run the wiring straight off the battery regardless of the year.

Stock the 09-10 runs 3x 35W HIDs, the 04-08 will empty the battery with only one HID, it needs "floating the ground mod" or a rewind and a full wave reg/rect. And the older SEM bikes have 2x 70W that can be used for lighting also needs a new reg/rect.

But be careful the more load on the generator the more heat is produced and the risk of overheating increases. Be sure to use quality wire when rewinding and even venting the generator housing is a good idea!

And in the summer when not using lights, be sure not to run the reg/rect and battery without any load it will damage them.
