Header and exhaust cleanup

As I am currently working on my stuck gear issue, I have removed the header and exhaust. There seems to be a lot of carbon deposit inside, as well as inside the exhaust ports, where I could remove crap with my fingers.

What product do you advise me to use to remove the carbon deposit? I was thinking about muratic acid but this could prove too caustic...

What do you suggest? Also should I clean up the exhaust port a little from the outside?

Eventually a top end job could be in order.

Thanks!

Well, I have started to use that tonight but thought that someone had a better idea.

So... pool acid... bad?

Oven Cleaner (if Caustic) should be OK on Stainless but will eat Aluminium Immediately. You may get away with it on mild steel but I am not sure. Carbon in general is a difficult thing to remove and I think Oven Cleaners really get off dried food spills and oil but maybe have trouble with true carbon

Firstly, be careful about Scraping carbon of the exhaust port if any goes back in and sits on your valve /valveseat it will damage the valve seat. yeah oven cleaner will combat the biuld up in the pipes. Is the carbon biuld up excessive? you could be running a bit rich on main jet. a look at the spark plug tells volumes!

LeFrog if you have got that much carbon build up I would be more worried about how much oil it has burnt rather than petrol !.

Oh and by the way they have turned my web site on again spoke with the company nobody knows nothing must of turned it's self off must be one of those self thinking computers

Sparks.

I was thinking it's because LeFrog is never on the main jet! :D

Sorry Froggy, couldn't resist.

I actually rev it higher and use a lot of the clutch when on single or tight stuff, so as not to stall, so I guess I do use it, the MJ :)

My bike has apparently a long history of desert riding in Nevada and so far so good, I like what I see inside. The carbon deposits are nothing bad, really, I am just being overzealous.

I opened the clutch cover only because I had to :)

Then.... if it is not broken ....Do not try to fix it! { Now I sound like my Dad!}

Do Not use Acid!
Acid will remove Aluminum. :)

Good old H2O breaks down dry carbon. Solvent wipes away oil residue.
