Have to split the cases, how far should I go?

Yes, I likely already know the answer to this. However, this forum is filled with folks much more knowledgeable than I and I am soliciting your input.

The condensed version: Water pump seal issue led to discovery of grooved balancer shaft. I have a spare balancer shaft and bearing, but I have to split the cases to replace it. So, do I just go ahead and replace the bearings, seals, etc while I'm in there? No, I won't be doing it personally since the work is well beyond my mechanical skill. Thus, it's going to cost substantial money anyway just to replace the water pump (balancer) shaft.

Motor has about 14 hours since last rebuild. Oil change evidences a bit of snow flake metal on the magnet (sometimes worse than other - bigger flakes). If it were you, how far would you go? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Oh, the bike is a 2005 FS650C.

what was done during the last rebuild? obvoiusly dont replace those parts, if you can get a con rod/bearing easily maybe do that at least? maybe main bearings too?? upgrade to dual valve springs if not done already?

if you're not sure of their mileage then change the mains to two new rollers. check the axial float on the way down so that you can get it RIGHT! you want 0.6mm minimum. look for strange wear patterns on the old surfaces.

camchain for sure - but check the clickers on the way down but it'll be confirmed.

grind the burrs on the selector forks

auto decomp spring (modified)

DVSK

look for inlets sinking and tuliping

look for cupped tappet pads

look for CFBs going.

thanks guys. Pending my budget, I may even try your cams out Taffy. Payday is 15th, likely I'll be ordering a cam chain, your spring, (already have your DVSK) and, perhaps the custom cams. Thanks again for the response.
