left Melborne thursday night and headed for wedderburn, friday morning headed for mildura and got settled and headed to check in and look at the bikes on display.
saturday started at 6am headed out to the prologue it was 2 degrees and the fog had settled in for the hell of it. Set out on the sighting lap had to stop 3 times to clean my googles (will use roll off next year) rode a lot of it not really being able to see the ground and just held it on bouncing off what ever, waited as long as possible before doing me timed hoping the fog would lift, no such luck owell had a crack at it and end up stopping to clean google on my timed lap just to finish it. 210 out of 223 not bad for my first time of riding sand, had a chat to barbs setup my pits for sunday and headed back to mildura to do the holiday thing with the family, crashed out early and then up at 6am on sunday to headout to the race, got all my gear sorted and bike ready, no nerves just ready to go, got lined up in our rows.
The race is on i pass a few and get passed by a few i have a bit of trouble getting use to the sand but not feeling to bad, some of the sand is wet and makes a great track flowing well then you hit what looks like the beach and sink 6in so down a gear or two and swing off the throttle you will struggle to get going again if you stop, get past a few people here, one bloke with a broken angle, one being looked at by the ambos, the best one was a bloke that had speared off the track and was trying to remove his bike from the tree it was wedged in funny as, i was starting to get into the flow of things, was feeling good came into a long straight at the back of the track it was top gear pinned a long a fence line i hear a noise and button off for a bend and there is a bang and im resting on the bars with the back wheel lock thinking i have done an engine but when i get it stopped the engine is idling so i kill it and look down to the chain there is the front counter shaftjammed between the frame and the swing arm bolt washer and spacer are now in the hattah sand some where, race over for me 21km into my first loop, thats racing so i will back next year to see if i can finish.
Congrats to those that rode the event weather you finished it or not well done.
Will add pic tomorrow
