Hard to start....what else is new

Well I just bought an 02 Fx650 on Saturday. I am having the damnest time getting it started. I have checked out the hard start guide. The bike has a Keihin fcr carb with accelerator pump off of ktm 525. I want to learn more about the carb. Carb smells like it is dumping gas....I am going to pull the plug tomorrow and check it.

I would like to find out more about the carb.....like there is a plug on the top of the carb going no where, why is having a KTM 525 accelerator pump a good thing, can't even tell where the damn choke is (admittedly have not looked in depth yet).

Found all the cut electrical wires so I am sure that I can hook a headlight and tailight back up, and get the bike street legal.

Can someone point me in a direction to learn more about this carb....is this the newer model of carb, that someone put on this bike? I thought that they came with a Dellorto in my year, but I may be wrong. This bike is not 100% the way the factory intended, that is why I am having some difficulties here. Trying to learn as much about it as I can. Thanks for any help.

Ok, well I pulled the plug...not only was the plug wire not pushed all the way onto the plug...but the plug is now completly fouled.....smells of gas. I removed the carb in anticipation of having to jet for my elevation of 7000'. I am going to get a new plug and attempt to figure out the correct jetting for my elevation. I guess I will check the valves while I am at it.

I know there are a ton of jetting suggestions, but if anyone wants to offer up some experience at high elevations let me know.
