Hard to re start hot 600

Hi
I have a 99 600 FX basically all rebuilt [bought as a basket case ] anyway she starts no problem when it is cool ,push the button and it usually fires to life first time. The problem is once it gets hot it will fire but as soon as you apply the throttle just a smige it flames out and will not restart .
The bike has a Big gun exhaust [full race model ] , valves are set to spec, air screw 1 1/2 turns out ,I did look over the jetting but can not remember what exactly they had installed [ previous owner ]...
It seems to run great through out the range from idle to full throttle ,and from sea level to over 7000 'but as soon as it gets to operating temp it is almost impossible to relight . This is really a hassle when you are climbing a nasty ridge with no way to turn around to bump start . uuggly words spoken in vain ... Any help would be soooo nice !!!
Thanx from Curly

When restarting hot I usually "clear" the bike. Pull in the manual decompressor, open the throttle and crank it over a few seconds. Release the decompressor and throttle and give it a try. If it does not start repeat the process again. This should clear any perculated fuel from the cylinder.
This has become my normal hot start routine (For Delorto carbs).

Curly,
You say your "air screw" is 1 1/2 turns out. On the Dellorto carb, this is actually the fuel mixture screw. (turning in clockwise = less fuel, turning out counterclockwise = more fuel). I have found this screw to be highly sensitive and that 1/2 turn can mean the difference between my bike hot starting or not. You might start out by turning it in 1/2 a turn because your hot-starting issue sounds like a rich fuel condition.

IMO, you shouldn't have to go through the rituals both Supermoto_Husaberg and Berger describe if your carb is spot on. (Especially when you're climbing that "nasty" ridge).

Thanx to all for the replys ,
First off this model did not come with a manual decompressor [go figure ].
Secondly the choke is needed only when first started on a cold day [I have only ridden the bike 3 times since the rebuild so I am a little new to this models hiccups] . I have not really tried starting it stone cold without the choke I just assumed as most bikes need a little extra fuel when first fired up !!! I will also turn the fuel screw to 1 turn out and try this .
It just seems strange that it will fire right up but as soon as you even look at the throttle ie. [go to turn it ] it stalls out and then she will not re start !
Any body recommend another carb set up or are these carbs ok once they are set up properly ??? From Curly
P.S. this bad boy when firing shoots the meanest rooster tail of any bike I have owed [ridden ] I also have a wr 426 ,and a 02 KTM 520 ...

there are three set ups on the owners doc curly but be warned we're worn out with questions on this at the moment. if you're gonna try them on yours-which should be fine as long as you have the same carb as later 501s and 470s etc; then please go the whole hog and buy the bits and have a go.

we don't know how it'll run if you do half a job.

regards

Taffy
