Handling difference 2003-2005

Rode my mate's FE450 2005 today. It turns better around tight corners than my 2003 FE400E and also goes better straight in soft sand. Is the geometry of the 2003 different to the 2005? Also the suspension (front) feels different. Just curious because i still love my 400.

Here's a couple of shots from my gallery demonstrating the difference between an 01 and 05 steering head angle.

The 05 angle is quite a bit steeper.

Now that is a clear explanation! I think i will try to get it up higher at the rear and perhaps drop the forks through the yokes a bit. I was positively surprised how easy the newer bike gets around corners!

it's all there in 'handling' in the owners doc fella!

i've done a lot of work to speed up the handling of mine and i would list your prioritise as

right/stronger spring rear
correct preload bordering on 85 not the 100 sag.
raise the forks by 5-10mm
change to 14, 15, 16, 17, 18mm offset yokes.

Thanks Taffy,

I allways thought that there wasn't a better handling bike then my 400.... Untill i got on the newer bike. Must say i never bothered to fidlle with the suspension and setup. Now I am convinced that threre is room for improvement. I have a track close to my home (unique for the Netherlands!) with all the soft sand, thight curves, bumps etc. So i will go out there and see what still can be improved. Allthough i must say that i like the handling in general. It feels very secure and stable. Somewhere in between the old LC4 KTM's and the newer EXC's. I decided for the Husaberg when i was on a guided tour in Turkey. They had the new 2003 Husabergs (400) and the 2003 EXC's from KTM. I found the KTM's more nervous in both handling and power delivery and just got along better with the Husaberg. And the price? What would you buy. A new Husaberg or a 2 year old KTM for the same price? Funny is that almost all Husabergs in the netherlands come from the states.... Unsold new and weak dollar you know....
