We were having trouble starting our newest addition to the team - a mint 2001 FX650
We test for spark and it is strong and at proper timing, however you have to REALLY spin the motor quick to get it to spark!
With no spark plug in hole, lay plug on engine and crank by hand - consistant beautiful spark.
With compression tester in engine, kicking engine over you need to really spin that motor to make spark
The ODD thing about it is, if I remove compression tester, it takes 2-3 kicks by hand to get the first spark, then it fires every time?????
Wiring on this bike was a mess. we basically had to make our own wire harness.
From the engine stator, I have blue wire going to gound, 3 wires for the ignition pluged into CDI. then 2 yellow wires. I plugged them both into rectifyer although it seems that one should be left unplugged???
next, there is one wire from the rectifyer that goes to ground?
I have an orange wire going to the kill switch, and another from CDi going to ground.
Is it normal to have to spin engine so fast to get a spark? Is there a ground mising?
