G'day
Wow what a site. I found this site and hoped it would answer some questions I had about my 'berg. I found a little more than I bargained for. I've been reading through the information here for more than two weeks now and still don;t think I've seen it all. It's almost the 'berg encyclopedia. As well it's nice to see a forum that is positive and polite.

Any how have a happy new year and keep the rubber side down.

Hi there and welcome. Nice bike you have there.
Got any pics you'd like to share?

I'd love to, but alas I have no camera. Then again the bike does not look much different than any other '05, at least for now. Thanks for the kind welcome though. Good day.

Hello Sentinal,

I see you are from Ponoka. You must have just purchased your ride from the new 'berg dealership in Red Deer. I just sold my FE400 so I am bergless at the moment but I am from Calgary. I am finishing up nursing studies at the hospital in Ponoka in five weeks and from there north to the Wetaskiwin for another five weeks. Have fun riding and I will listen for the low rumble of your bike during the day if the weather is nice.

Shayne.

Well it's good to know there are a few 'bergs in Alberta, and yes I did buy it at Precision cycle. In fact I think I bought the first one from them. A little unnerving considering it's the first berg I'd ever seen. It's also the first four stroke I've owned so it's a steep learning curve. Engine braking is driving me crazy.

Sadly it's been in for warranty work already. A little bracket that keeps wires from the stator from hitting the flywheel broke off and caused some carnage. So after a month or two I finally got it back and all is well. I was actually considering trading off for a KTM 300 about a month ago due to the time it can take for parts but reading through this site convinced me otherwise.

There are some things I have to figure out about it yet but I'm sure it'll all work out wonderfully.

Thanks for the warm welcome. G'day

 that's hilarious, the berg has no engine braking......you want engine braking try a Husqvarana Te-510 .... it will go 40 back to zero faster then it goes 0-40 seems like anyways

It does have some engine braking and I am learning to use it when getting into turns.

Don't forget he comes from a two-stroke. Which one, by the way? And what made you buy this bike?

Welcome Sentinal,

There are a bunch of Bergs in southern Alberta as Dave at A&E Racing in Brooks has been selling them for some time. A few have been raced in the Cross Country and Hare Scrambles series there... piloted by vetern racers such as Lee Fryberger and Dan Watt.

A bit of Alberta/Husaberg trivia for you...Lee and Dan have both done multiple ISDE events on Bergs and received silver and bronze medals...France, Brazil, Poland, Slovakia, etc.. Also, Dan Watt won the Cross Country Championship (Expert/Masters Class) on a Husaberg in 2004. 8O

I am back in New Brunswick now but spent several years in Calgary. Wow, do I ever miss the amazing single track in the Rocky Mountains. You live in one of the best riding areas on the planet!

Forget the 300exc pumpkin. I had one, great bike...but you can't compare it to the 450 you just purchased. They are simply magnificant motorcycles. I just picked up a 2005 FE550 before Christmas.

Happy Thumping :D

I was riding a KDX220 before the berg. Sucks up 1st and 2nd gear stuff real good but couldn't pull hard enough when the dirt got deep. I needed more power so I figured a 450 4-stroke or 300 2-stroke. I then realized I really didn't like mixing gas. Aswell, Precision had treated me well over the years and I never have liked conforming to the norm anyway. I'm quite happy with it. Still have to force myself to let the engine do the work NOT grab the clutch but,all will be learned in good time.

I have yet to ride the trails in the rockies. Not much time as of late and my friends run 4x4 quads and hit some really nasty trails. No one to go with basicly. I got me a quad a few months ago and I'm gonna go ride with them and see for my self if it is as bad as they say. Gotta go.

Welcome to the gang Sentinel

Check us out at the Calgary bike show this weekend or the Red Deer show towards the end of the month. It was not long ago that bergs were VERY rare in Ab, ask Shayne, he'll attest to being a very lonely man. It seems our numbers have grown.

As far as the engine braking is concerned, try running a gear higher than normal. The 450 has plenty of torque and low end, as well the lower rpm won't brake as hard. As well, try one .44 fork spring or both, depending on your weight, the 05 fork dived under decel if you were braking hard or are a larger dude like myself.

Happy thumping and Happy New Year

Fry

I'll try short shifting and carrying a higher gear like you said. Makes sense to me. Srings are one issue I have yet to figure out.

I'm not sure what constitutes a larger dude but I'm around 215lbs. I'll probably end up around 195 in a few months. I crashed and put my shoulder into a tree in august. Couldn't move my arm for 2 weeks so I sat around playin video games and eating fast food. BIG mistake. I have had issues with bottoming so the suspension might need some looking at. I'll probably look into it more when the snow flies and the bike is parked.

I kinda know how Shayne must have felt I though, I thought I was the only one for a little while. Didn't know about the dealer in Brooks.
G'day
