Jedi made a comment on the post about the Cycle World test to the effect that maybe he put too much effort into grass roots efforts. I don't fully understand all that he was trying to communicate with that statement, but it got me thinking.
Why did us H'berg owners buy a berg? Myself, I bought my first 'berg back in '92 after reading a review in a rag and racing against David Rhodes ('91 ISDE Junior Team winner) in off-road races. I went back to a 2stroke in '92 for better race support and a consistant parts supply. From '94 to '02 I convinced a few riders to get 'bergs because they made riding very fun and made a "hero out of a zero" in the woods, dispite the mixed review of the mags. One of the riders got a bike that wouldn't stay together and was convinced that I was satans helper, the others were thankful for the advise. I am currently riding a 'berg again and know of 3 others in my immediate area on 'bergs that love them.
Point is that Jedi is right in that currently most sales of 'bergs are from word of mouth and most importantly by riding a friends bike, thus grass roots support is still were BMG's biggest efforts need to stay. Keep the current owners happy so that we can build a strong legion of 'berg owners rather than the shotgun approach of wining and dining the rags to get a good review.

Hello friends,
Please bear with me while I get this off my chest.

Be it magazines, the internet, international, national or local competition it is of my personal opinion that every percaution should be excersized in order to insure a positive impression.

The issue as I see it is not whether or not a Husaberg should be supplied to a magazine for evaluation, made available for test rides and / or entered in any number of local, national or international events. All are important! The highest regard should be placed upon attention to detail no matter what the endeavor.

For the record:
I personally spoke with Jimmy Lewis and I can assure you the Husaberg review was not biased. Where Husqvarna and others supplied either new in the crate equipment and / or factory support the Husaberg was delivered damaged, in a poor state of tune and without technical assistance. What I came away with from our conversation was that JL had found the bike pretty cool though unfortunately for the most part unrideable as a result of it's general condition and as delivered setup.

Husaberg has always produced an exceptional product. Unfortunately due to untimely failures (most often as the result of human error) the full potential of the brand has never been realized. Failures need to be controlled in particularly while in the public eye.

Why do I care?
Bad exposure = reduced sales. Reduced sales = reduced profits. Reduced profits will eventually = elimination. I have a huge emotional investment in Husaberg (not to mention a fairly hefty financial one) and would personally like to see the brand prosper.

Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to vent.
Respectfully,
Dale

Ps
In my humble opinion a Husaberg refusing to start or failing during a local event could possibly prove worse than a negative magazine review. :D

Hey tm I agree with you, I have never bought a bike from a magazine article or a win on sunday sell on monday. I bought my Berg (02-fe501e) after riding an 01-470 and a KTM 520exc, the berg felt much better ergo wise to me then the KTM.

Husaberg still needs to Advertised in the mags (Dirt Rider, Dirt Bike and Trail Rider) so riders know they still exsist and that the distributer wants to sell the bikes.

They also still need some reviews in the mags, to show they run but need to be set-up before delivery, Cycle World said the bike was good after having the bike setup.

Just my 2cents

Sorry for the duplicate. I became pretty fired up and self righteous their for a minute.

I think we all agree that we want to see good magazine writeups on 'bergs and quality control is a must (thanks for adding that ), we all benefit from that. The Husaberg reputation was damaged primarily by personal contact and reestablishing a firm foundation will also occur by personal contact (following increased quality control). FYI, one of my duties at work is being an ISO9001 (quality control) auditor, you'd be amazed at how much work it takes to close quality control holes. Hopefully Husaberg is working on fixing their quality program. Properly setup test bikes are still needed to make the marque grow in NA and get the word out.

Hi Tm-enduro,
Perhaps I should replace "quality control" with that of "attention to detail" as a majority of our troubled past has been no fault of the factory. Truth be told I personally feel that prior to BMG every official North American importer has overall done more harm than good.

On a positive note:
I believe in both Husaberg and BMG.

Sincerely,
Dale

Well, i bought my Berg cause i rode it then loved it (still do) and I like being different. I drive a truck that only 12,000 or so were ever made so this goes right along with that theme. the boss wants me to sell the berg to get a CRF450 cause we could trick it out and use it to promote our shop. when someone sees my berg they are like, "husaberg??? :? " I would like to keep the berg forever cause its the best bike ive ridden yet, but.....

Tm

excellent thread

Dale

All I can say is ditto, your words are gospel.

I bought my first berg prior to attending the six days in France on Guy Perrett's word that they were magic and had excellent support at the ISDE. All of what he said, I have found to be true.

As Jedi has previously noted, BMGs endeavor with the Husaberg line will be uphill. It will with time and hard work level out and perhaps even find itslef a downhill or two!!

best of luck again BMG

Although I purchased my Berg without reading
a good test on it I Usually use the magazines for
research. When they tested the KZ1000 I bought one.
Then I saw a test on the GS1000,had to have one.
The list goes on.I can't get test rides on everything
so I have to trust the magazines.Cycle World has
been very close on every bike I've had.I have only
owned 20 motorcycles,my dad has had 40.I have
some catching up to do.Anyone read a test on a
TM 300E?

$$$$$ Closed the deal for me! Buying the 02 at the end of 03 was the only way I could afford a bike of this caliber. Honestly I was looking @ clamped out 400 exc's for the same price I bought my 470 for. The only research I could fine @ the time was this message board. The board provided enough positive information and was honest enough with the issues these bikes possesses, and how to rectify them. "All race bikes have issues, even KTM" after about a week of reading the board and thinking about what it would take me to repair any major failures. I made the leap to Berg! Unless Ktm makes me a deal like Berg did I’ll be riding Blue & yellow for a long time! My plan is too ride the FX470E for Three year's. Have all new plastic & stock graphic's then put her in the basement for long term storage. I feel she'll make a great vintage bike in time. Then upgrade to a new bike. Preferably a Berg!

LONG LIVE THE HUSABERG!

Well I hope I do not overshoot here since I am new to the Husey world(Still waiting to ride mine) but a theme keeps re-emerging to me. Where is BMG? This WEB site is BMG's and Husabergs best friend. In fact we are like children waiting to hear that Mom & Dad are OK. You can even reverse the analogy since we nurture BMG and the factory as well. Point is the relation could and in my eyes should be symbiotic. I am not saying the distrbutor or factory should become intrinsically involved in this site since it is a riders forum and not a manufacturers advertising page but an appearance here or there would go a long way in reassurring me that the BRAND is here to stay. If I am off here then let me know and help me understand. If my point has some validity is there a way to get at least BMG if not Husaberg to respond. Just a thought.

i don't think you'll ever get the factory to respond but jedi is a good friend to this site. he can't be seen to be embrouled in a slanging matches coz basically one "out of hand" thread with one of our more lively members (now i wonder who fits the bill? ) would see him AND his company out of a job never mind his future prospects.

SCHWIM
what i would love to see is a kind of one way mirror, whereby he can put facts or info into his own thread and they can't be answered. thereby allowing Jedi to make a (official?) statement.

furrinstance, i'd like all the changes from '03 to '04 listed out of interest. and if parts can be uprated or not to the newer spec. he could make a statement about a 'common fault' etc.

how about it schwim?

We can do that taffy. I would be able to lock it and remove any posts that may have been added before I was able to close it.

It would be nice to have hard lists like that, for sure.

thanks,

Hi Taffy,
With all due respect "what are you talking about?"
I reviewed this thread in addition to that of the Cycle World heading and really found nothing exceptional or cause for alarm.

As an authorized Husaberg parts distibutor I phoned BMG early last week requesting that they play a bit more pro active role regarding this site. I believe My suggestion was well received. However, sensorship for no other reason than to insure ones opinion is not challenged is a bit over the top if you ask me.

Eliminating personal character attacks and / or undocumented speculation is one thing for sure.... Stripping those who have a valid opinon of their say is quiter another.

Please understand that at this stage in the game I am growing a bit weary and my skin is getting quite thin. If I have misunderstood your post please excuse me.

Respectfully,
Dale

I may have not had enough coffee, but I took the part to mean "any posts like MY changes, or other factual topics having to do with the bikes" be stickied and locked so people can view them easily without muddling. I don't think he meant that all threads involving josh be locked so nobody can differ in opinion.

I think :)

you did misunderstand my post. i too feel that 'they' shouldn't be the untouched. however i'd like to see more information put up from the NA importer. an example would be to say that a part on the '04s has been superceded immediately by another.

that might be a chance for someone to flame out and so i don't suppose we get that much info here that you couldn't deduce from a magazine. sorry, wrong, i learn twice as much from a magazine as i do from an importer on changes.

so what i'm saying here is if someone could 'drop us a line' without having to come back again and again over the next 10 days: would we get to know more? i think we would.

notice how you get pestered, how DR got it and our bon ami canook friend did last season. some may feel that they're not obliged to follow up every dribbling question but for the 'official' not to reply would be seen as a 'cover up'. nonsense of course! but i hope you understand my (very) laboured point.

i trust you see this as an entirely seperate issue to the one i brought up last week about 'learning'?

BTW, spotted the info on the keihin kit-very good.

Taffy
