anyone know if this is a good unit? and if the mounting hardware can be easily adapted to an o4 husaberg.

All Garmin's are good stuff.... depends what you want... If you don't need the cartography (mapping) I use the garmin Fortrex 201 no mapping but gives you everything else.... I use mine for the trails so I can get my way back out... as well I like the lap timer and average speed function for the track, its great for bike tuning or line changes to figure what works......they make universal bar mounts there are companies who make locking devices as well...... If you decide on the larger units then pm me and I will call a freind who has one that he is thrilled about... I've seen it looks very clean....

The Touratech MvG mounts are THE choice for using GPS offroad. Anything else will not offer enough vibration and shock damping to allow the unit to stay on and protect the internal components, IMO. This assumes that you're going to hardwire the unit, because even the MvG won't allow the GPS to stay on if you're using batteries.

Now, if you just want to have a unit to turn on when you stop rather than stay on and collect data, then anything will work...including stuffing it in a pack. I'm thinking about getting an upgraded unit to replace my recently dead Garmin V, but my top choices don't have associated MvG mounts. I'm not sure which unit I'll get, but I won't bother mounting it on the bike unless it has the only currently available proper mount.

The GPS V is solid and has all the functions you need. It is not in color, but it does the job. The fact that it is compact makes it easy to secure it yourself with a homemade mount. I made mine with zinc plates, which bend very easily and can be cut the same. I'll try and make photos.

Also there are loads of GPS V units on eBay these days. It seems that it was very popular with the boys in Iraq. Got mine for less than $100 and it came with the map of Baghdad.

  What a great idea! Armed with one of these GPS's, the next time my connecting rod flies out the bottom of my motor, I'll be able to find it!

i have had a garmin etrex legend gps on my bike using a $15 handlebar mount for almost 2 years. it has survived many ugly crashes without a hiccup. only within the last month have i had to replace the mount, as vibration loosened it up enuff to make poor battery contact when you revved the snot out of it. the gps snaps on or off easily when you want to use it for other things. only downside is the small screen requires you to stop if you need to read something up close.

I have a Garmin V and tourtec mount and I fall ALOT! It has been rock solid. There are some issues with being able to see the map with bad eyes at speed but that is not what you have it for.

It is great for making a track log for others to follow ( you can e amil it to them) or following a track log from someone else ( dualsport rides or a log I e mail you). I have mine hard wired and I also had it "hardened" ( whatever that means)when purchased through Tourtec. I think I havf had it at least 3 years and ZERO problems. I think I am into the whold deal about $325.00 from tourtec new.

I will be buying a LARGER screen GPS for my car but will stick with the V on the bike.

I can post some Pics if you want but I am happy with mine and have never looked back.

I'm thinking about the Garmin 60CX... The Michigan CCC publishes a CD of all 3000 miles of marked trail that you can download to a Garmin...
