I have been talking with Dez, Tuts and Brendan and we have decided to do a ride from outside of Fallon to Austin overnight and back. The tenative date is June 18-19. I will be providing a chase truck to carry fuel, drinks, snacks, and gearbags to Austin. John has volunteered to be the sweep rider or slow group leader. That only means that my group will be ever so slightly faster or we well just be a conga line.
The ride will have some slow tight washes, 4th gear washes, single track in the trees, a STEEP but easy downhill, some fast but challenging two track a dry lake bed where if you have gearing and balls you could do 150mph and have plenty of run out room, a real tight trail with sagebrush that is as high as your head while on the bike and some good scenery. Saturday will be between 130 and 150 miles. If you get tired near the end I can cut off about 25 miles and put you on a good dirt road into town. Sunday will be about 90 miles or if you are whipped I can send you on good dirt roads and a unused paved road for an easy ride home.
I would like to invite all who want to go but must say that if you are really a poor "C" rider you will not have a good time and will be whipped and drag us down. All who went to Moab from this part of the country should have no problem. I will limit it to around 15 riders. I cant haul much more fuel and gear and I don't want the conga line to get too long.
If you are interested give me a pm and I will give you the number for the hotel in Austin. It is not luxury but I don't think you will care after the ride some cold ones and a good steak at the restaurant across the street. It does have hot water, clean beds and a heater.
First 15 are in but if your not sure please let those who are have a chance.

well done bob

i'll miss this one out!

what i will say is if you have the patience there are a few members of the site from the states that surround nevada and if you can spare the time to go through the members list and PM them you'll get a few more.

regards

Taffy

Taffy, remember i,m onna them whitetrash dudes an I caint figger out how ta pm morean one people ata time so I jus posteded it here. I figger if ay wanna go they will hoaloer at me. Member we vented the tooth brush cause if someun else did it wudda been called a teeth brush.

Lefrog ,You bet it is Nevada. Hey I got a great idea ,if you come up for the ride, I wont have to make a trip to Vegas.

I am ready for some more pain and punishment, Bobzilla style! I am not riding behind anyone who has eaten Bob's chilli that day, however. Will Neal be healed up by then, and will his wife let him go?

Coronaberg, can you go?

Why not Texas?

You had me all excited thinking thst we would ride to Texas :D , then you say it's Austin,NEVADA

Oh well, I guess since you guys can't seem to get on the trail before 11:00 am, Austin, Texas would be a little too far.

If you promise that we can ride by 8 a.m., I would like to go.

Ok this timne I'll be Splat and you see if you can get the rest up and going. :D :D :D
I will do my best but starting a 8 am or not I am sure you will have a good days ride. It wont be as technical as Moab but I can garrantee it will be faster and farther but still challenging.
So are you numer uno on the sign up sheet?

Sorry Brian you are not the first . I just read my PM's and Brendan got you beat.

Out here in Phoenix if you can't get up early to ride, then you only ride half of the year.

Well, Bob, that means waiting 2 months to make the deal. Hey where are my pictures by the way?

I have rode this on a kx 500 and had no problem but.... two years ago we had a show off racer who got lost and ended up coming into Austin on Hi-way 50 and got clocked at 105mph and got over $1300 in fines. He was being an ass , no license no tag no insurance and speeding. If you go with us and ride the whole way I see no need to have a tag. The only road that we go on is a very short section of an unused road and about 100 yrds in town. If you had to you could push your bike in town. On that trip I think we had 18 with no tags and three with tags and only one problem and I think it was his fault.
Please try and come. I have wanted to meet you for a few years now and we seem to always miss.

At this time count me in! SOunds like alot of fun. And Bobzilla I will eat your chilli, does it have Jalapenos in it! You and I at the front with the afterburners on

Dano and I rode the section between first and second gas yesterday and it was great. Only had to do a couple of detours around snow drifts. Tried to cross one after walking on it but found out the hard way that it wasn't strong enough to hold me up after about 50 yards. WAIST DEEP. I thought I was having a heart attack dragging the bike out of that. Wild flowers were just starting to show.

Trying to go around another drift I fell into a badger den and went over the bars on a steep downhill. Think I cracked a couple of ribs but nothing to stop the ride yesterday. That will teach me to wear a chest protector even when scouting trails.

Anyway the outlook for the June 18/19 ride is good. I think that we will be able to do all I want top except for a small area at the end of day one.Looks like 130-150 miles on saturday and 90-100 sunday but sunday can be shorter and easier if you want it to be. Nothing Killer on the ride a couple of steep hills but no problems. About 50% two track 40%single track and washes,10% easy road. Don't think the two track is boring. It is through the quakies and pinions and along sidehills. Plenty to keep you on your toes but wont wear you out.

Let me know if you are planning on coming. So far I think I have Brendon, Tuts, Dez One lung(shaggy) and John. Maybe Moose and Cyclist. If I Don't get 15 from this site I am going to open it up to some other friends. I am sure they will get along with you guys just fine but they will not have the blue and yellow bikes.

BTW My berg went to a new home today. Congratulations LeFrog. Don't let the beast bite you. I hope you have as much fun with it as I did. Remember its like a hot lady: high maintenance but worth the price. Now lets see what kind of deal I can make with the dealers in the NorCal/Nevada area. Got money, will drive for a deal.

Hey guys, got room for one more? I would like to come and ride with you, I will keep the sweeper company I am sure.

Brendan, Unklemoose, You going for sure? PM me if you are interested in working out a car pool, I can get myself and my bike there but I can't haul more than one bike (wife has to have the van)

Yes, I still plan on attending the Bobzilla tour. My vacation time has been approved! With my bike and all of my camping crapola piled in there, my little mennonite truck can only haul one bike. :(

well, i would dare say my ford taurus looks much goofier having the bike hanging off the back. I would suggest that we follow each other but I don't think that BMG would approve of the message that we would be sending.... 8O 8O

so should i take the lack of response as a secret message that you don't want me along :sad2:

well sorry guys you can't get rid of me that easily. Count me in 8) i just need directions and I'll be there....

Bob must be slackin'. He is letting me go, so that goes to show he does not have any standards.

Okay slackers now is the time to put up or shut up.

The ride:
Middlegate Station to Austin
Date June 18&19
miles 130-150 a day with bailouts if needed.

Hotel info as follows
motels in Fallon
Comfort Inn 775 423 5554
Best Western 775 423 6005
Oxbow 775 423 7021
Holiday Inn 775 428 2588

There are others and you can look them up in the book but all of these are nice hotels with the Oxbow being the oldest and least nice. ( we have some crack hotels here but I don't think any of you fit that bill) Holiday Inn is an Express so you can do brain surgery on Saturday if needed.

Hotels in Austin
Lincon Motel 775 964 2698
Mountain Motel 775 964 2471
Pony Canyon Motel 775 964 2605
All the hotels in Austin are just for sleeping and not luxury. I will be staying at the Lincon Motel and that is where the truck will be going but all three hotels are next door to each other and right across the street from the bar/restaurant. They are also about 100 yards from the dirt road we will be coming in on so a tag should not be required.
There is a motel at Middlegate station 775 423 7134 if any one wants to stay there on Friday night. I have spent many nights out there but it is just a bunk house with no frills.

I plan on being ON THE TRAIL by 8:30-9 am. You need to be at Middlegate station which is 1 hour from Fallon by 8 at the latest

There will be a truck carrying fuel, your Small overnight bag, and some refreshments to Austin and meeting us along the way. We will be towing a trailer in case of breakdowns. Please be prepared to fix a flat your self and have what you need to do that WITH YOU

Please make your reservations as soon as you can and let me know the status so I can tell how many are going. We have been getting a little rain at least once a week so the wild flowers are going crazy and it should be a good ride.

Pm me if you have any questions or have made reservations and I will give you any more details you may need and my phone number. We can talk about meeting Friday night for dinner if you want.
