On a 2004 FC450 with only four gears. What is the ratio of rear and front sprockets??

One tooth at the front equals how many on the rear??

I'd like to get it a bit higher geared.

surely all you need to do is go and look?

i would guess that you have 13/50 so 1 tooth on the front is worth just under 4 off the rear.

gearing up is 13/48 (taller)
gearing down is 13/52 if it'll fit. these two rear sprocket changes are equal to 1/2 a front tooth change.

Hi,

it´s very easy. Just take a calculator and divide 50 by 13, for example.
I have a 15 teeth front sprocket and a 48 teeth rear sprocket.
That´s a ratio of 3.2. I have a FC transmission semi wide ratio.
So in the moment I think about changing my sprockets, too.
Maybe I´ll take 14/44 or 14/45, what results a ratio of 3.143 or 3.213.
I think I´ll rather take 14/44, because I want to go a bit taller (faster),
I almost hate gearing. I only use 2 gears on a MX track, sometimes only one gear is enough.
Starting in 2nd gear, shifting up in 3rd and that´s it.
A ratio of 3.2 means 1 tooth front is equal with 3.2 teeth at rear.

This was all very helpful.
I've been using 15/42 on my husaberg up until now, but I'm thinking about trying 14/38 the next outing for exploiting the low down torque a little better.

Hi,
The 14/38 sprocket combo will be less than 1 tooth difference
from your current combination, and almost unnoticable.
Just remember bigger rear / smaller front more low end power.
bigger front / smaller rear more top end speed.
I run 13,14,15 front / 48 rear depending on conditions. My bike
is an 03 400.

Here is a previous thread that might help with sprocket sizing. If you would like a spreadsheet e-mailed to you to help calculate engine revs vs gearing or someone to do the calcs for you then PM me. It is not rocket science, but may be of help.
