Gearing for engine braking 09 FE450

Hi, I'm comming up for a chain & sprocket change and am thinking of changing from the current 14/52 to 13/52.
I'm feeling the pain after upgrading from my old KTM which had amazing engine braking (we have some pretty amazing trails down here with some hair raising long downhills, and have boiled my front brake fluid already)

I'm guessing the poor engine braking due to the fuel injection and the sensors throwing fuel in as the bike revs?

2 Questions:
do you think gearing down will improve engine braking? and I was thinking of doing the muffler mod to free up some ponies, will this make the engine braking worse given less restriction of exhaust?
I don't need the extra speed of the 14 front sprocket as not much call for 140+kph on the tight trails here. 115kph is more than enough to hurt me.

Your thoughts would be appreciated
Cheers

I'd change the front sprocket now before fitting the new chain and test out how you like it. You'll know then what it is like.

I was told by a pro enduro rider that engine braking was for 4x4's not bikes. He then explained on steep down hills most of the braking should be done by the front as that was where all the weight was and therefore the traction.

I hate riding with people with noisey pipes as it makes my headhurt after a few hours so unless you ride by yourself in the middle of nowhere I'd leave the pipe alone.
Hope at least some of the above helps :D
