right just to clarify best gearing for outright speed is 16frnt 38 rear? or is it possible to go smaller rear? or bigger front?

Chris.

im not sure what sizes are available mate, so its best checking with some more knowledgeable members, but going UP on the FRONT, and DOWN on the REAR will increase top speed. obviously acceleration is the reverse of this.

do a search on 17s i think that they are humanly possible but only after the rubber has been slashed away that prootects the SA. all husaberg sprockets are interchangable.

best gearing is validated by your rev counter and the speedo. i don't think anyone here has ever claimed to have the best set up because it depends whether your bike is tuned, you wore leathers, prone or upright. etc etc.

don't make the mistake of highest RPM = top speed. it often isn't, especially on a torquey single. by flicking between revs and highest speeds you'll be able to gather where it's at it's fastest. would suggest (and plenty of SM riders here will beat me up if i'm wrong) but you're best having gearing that allows "flat out crazy MF in 5th gear" and 6th is for cruising and saving the engine.

you can tell from this site just how frail these engines can be - your only so far from the big bang theory!

suggest that at the end of the day it will be sheer wind resistance that beats you!

yea exactly what im aming for taffy, 6th as an overdrive, the bike is kicking over alot easier after the spring de-bound too. if the rubber is cut on the swingarm will the sproket catch?

what sort of top speed are we looking at on these bikes (650s?) as a general guide ? will i be comfortable sat at 70 on the motorway ? obviously i didnt buy it for top speed but i hope i wont be putting too much strain on the engine by taking a small stint down the motorway to get to my favourite back roads.
kawasakikid, id suggest getting something jap and inline 4 for top speed :)

as i say, at the top of the page is a search feature. so put "17T" in that and try a few old threads. we have a complete SM section here that you can look into.

no i just want it to rev the least amount possible as you saud the engines are frail so i dont want mine to go bang! lol looking for 60 - 70 tops. it will do that now but at about six or seven thou revs i think, current set up is 16-42

I run 15/40 but going 15/38 i dn't like 16/40 to much was 120+mph in 6th gear bit scary on an mx bike! but the 15/38 will hopefully be bit more usable up to 5th gear then 6th for cruising at lower rpm 16/40 was flat in 6th couldn't really use it till doing 80mph+
