Hi All

My 2003 FE501e has had a slight shift prob nearly since new. when in 3rd and downshifting, sometimes it drops straight into neutral. tho not a big worry, it has made me crash once when compression sliding in to a corner, hit neutral, and then over shoot corner into a log.

The problem is that twice on weekend it got stuck in 3rd gear. when it finally would change, it seemed a bit clunky thru gears 1-2-3 and ok in gears 4-5-6. it seems like worsening of the same problem.

when it gets stuck, there is no springyness in the shift lever, it is sort of stuck solid, til i ride around a bit and continually try shifting up and down until it will shift up for 4th, and then come back down.

i read on the site about the lever spring, and the selector claw possibly giving trouble.

any ideas??????dropped oil and it's clean.

thanks for help.

Have Fun

Hi,

I killed 2 gear wheels last week because of the same symptons or maybe the same reason.
The screw in the middle of the lever spring (behind the clutch basket) was loose.
So I had also problems when shifting up, between 3rd and 4th gear and later also between 2nd and 3rd gear.
When I shifted up, sometimes there was "neutral", in the meantime full throttle and at last the gear jumped in and: CRACK.
That hurts.
I can tell you: Open your clutch cover and have a look at the mechanic of your gear lever. Maybe you have to tighten the screw. Important: Use loctite.

best regards

Will test ride tomorrow but i'm pretty confident problem solved.
