i have an 02 fe400, great bike love it. my berg wont go into neutral when runing, it has started jumping out of 1st and 2nd gear and last ride it jammed in 1st gear and wouldnt come out for love nor money, can anyone give me any idea on what it maybe
:(

Seems to be common that bergs will not find neutral easily when the engine is running, mine is certainly tricky as is my mates 2008 berg. With regard to the dodgy gearchange it may be worth taking the clutch cover off and having a look at the selector drum and the selector lever, I've had these come loose on other bikes before now. The lever that turns the drum can wear or become burred up. Otherwise it could be the selector forks within the gearbox which can also burr up or bend, this is a much bigger job I'm afraid.

i trust the bike has been used for green laning and enduro racing?

mine did the same. unless you have some strange anomoly in the sidecover i'm afraid the dogs have gone off 1-3 gears on the output shaft. £60 each approx and a reebuild.

suggest you have the sidecover off and check for binding and also a loose bolt throught the middle of the large selector spring which can come loose.

regards

Taffy

Make sure you check out the gear selector for burring first (just under the clutch hub) - polish it up nicely and re-check before you open up your engine - this is a far more common problem than the gearbox going and often gives the same symptoms. Even very small burring can cause gear shifting problems.

Cheers,
Simon
