Gear selector drum position

Hi guys, need some more help, at the moment I'm rebuilding my engine after replacing all the bearings. Thouble is the manual instructs that one of the pins on the selector drum (the pins that locate the selector star) should have a flat end, and this pin when positioned towards the front of the engine puts the selector drum in the neutral position. My problem is none of the pins on my selector drum have a flat top 8O . Is there any other way of ensuring the drum is in the neutral position so I can rebuild it with the gear cluster in neutral.
I know, I know, I should have marked it before I dismantled it, but hindsight is always 20-20

Are they all the same length? On both my bikes the pin you are refering to is ever so slightly shorter than the others. Double check because it is not always apparent.

Have a look and let us know.

Cheers,
Simon

Hi yoshie,

if you are not sure if it´s the right position,
try tro find neutral and test it by rotating the
transmission shafts if you got neutral. First
you can try to get 1st gear, after that you turn
the drum a half position in left direction.
Then you must have neutral and you can fix
the positioning star.

Simon, your right, one pin is slightly shorter than the rest, that'll be the one to set it up with.

hribman, I'll check it that way one the crankcases are together

Thanks guys
