Gear mash (possible noise)

As I was taking my FC550 2001 apart to rebuild the crank area, I found something that did not seem normal. That was the gear mash or profile of the gear teeth on the kick starter gear(pos 17, part no 230096-01) did not match the profile of the gear(pos 8, part no 230015-01) and the clutch hub gear(pos 20, part no 230002-01).

I have call afew shops about this and they could not verify that this is correct or a manufacture error.

If anyone that may know the answer or has their motor apart could tell me if this is the same on other motors, please let me know.

It has not damage the needle bearing on the shafts, but it does cause the gears to bind when turned by hand, This could make some noise when running.

i know that at around that time the gears on the counter balancer were changed in pprofile. maybe they did the same to the kickstart.

the other alternative is that the owner before you forgot to tell the dealer of the year of the bike and just shoved it in?

Re: RE: Gear mash (possible noise)

The clutch basket and crank pinion also had revised profiled teeth so it's a good bet that the rest of this drive side had revised profiles as well.

Up date on the gear mesh. I had sent my gears to Dan ta Motoxotica, he found that I had the correct gears, they matched gears he had in stock. The new kickstarter gear Dan had in stock has the same profile as mine. It looks to been design this way, so I will drop this and move on.
