Gap between hub and axle - is this OK?

Last time I pushed the fork leg in a little to cover up the black, but that will add to stiction, right?

Of course, like this, the wheel isn't centered between the fork legs, so that will apply some sideways force on compression, which will add to stiction....

How do you guys do it?

With the front of the bike raised I instal the wheel and tighten the bolt on the LHS of the spindle. I then spin the wheel and apply the front brake repeatedly to seat the pads up to the disc. Drop the bike off the stand and with the front wheel on the floor, hold the front brake on and pump the forks several times to align the forks, then tighten the pinch bolts both sides. Doesn't bother me much if there's a gap on the RHS or not. Pushing the RH fork leg inwards to close the gap and tightening the pinch bolts in this position puts lateral loading on the stanchions IMO which will hinder smooth operation.

Hi

I have made my own spacers, because I have taken out the speedo thing.

My main question is not if the wheel is centered, is if with your spacers you closing the suspension and with that force you bending it a little and the fork not working as well as it should.

If it's not right, make new ones

I put the axle in and tighten it till snug. Then the left pinch bolts, then torque it up.

Then I'll smack it (the right side fork stub) with a rubber mallet to get it to relax. Tighten the right side pinch bolts, then loosen them, smack it again, then tighten them and torque.

Just a soft tap or two straight down behind the pinch bolts.

I guess you could install just the axle, and measure the fork legs for parallelility. Scrutinize the right side axle reveal then put it together the same way but with the wheel in.

Thanks for the help, fellows.

Found a picture of it when new. May or may not be right, but it's exactly as it was!

Man, the guy I bought it from put 36 well-done pictures on eBay, I have been very thankful for that quite a few times!
