Not sure if this is the right place to post but I have been looking at an FX470e 2003 the bike is in pieces price is ok just not sure what kind of updates or issues this model was prone to havent seen too much on the 470 are they any good? Looking for a back up bike for my fe450 thanks

470 has all the same issues as the rest. If it is an 03 it should have the updated rockers and balancer already.

Hi

The bike its a fun bike, the 2003 propably has some important improvements like the counter balancer bearings and the cam, don't know if the 03 has allready the good auto decomp. You have to ask someone like Taff to the details.

Just saying, pay attention to the price of the bike, since you are making a complete rebuild it can be very hard to your $$$.

Good luck

Well i had A 02 fe 400 I loved that bike but was beaten down finaly by a co worker and sold it to him. I ended up buying a 2010 FE450 and have had nothing but issues with it. If I buy this bike I would build it from the ground up well i would have to its in a million pieces but If these bikes are nice and reliable with some up dates I am interested also does the 03 have an FCR carb or still use the Delorto? Think thats right

Hi

The 03 still have the dellorto but it can be upadated to the FCR with some work, don't know if needs to be done ?
The bike has lots of power and it works with the dellorto well.

I don't know the 2010 450, but like you had, I have a 400 02, and comparing to that one you can count on a lot stronger engine.

I have rebuilt the 400 02 from nothing and now I'm finishing one 470 01 from nothing, if you need anything let me know.
The 03 bike should have some of the problems allready solved, except you still have to deal with the SEM stator, thats life !

Well I went and looked at the bike today turns out it it a 02 but he had a bunch of updated parts for it I guess the cam bearing failed and well u know the rest so I got a good head start on the parts for rebuild but what do I need to update the counter balance? New bearing or shaft as well?

here goes
if you want to do the job properly you'll pay 100% attention to the piston and bore. these are the achilles heel of the 470.

later ADC and modified at that
sealed cam bearings
tuliped inlets
cupped tappet pads
domed valve stems
turn the rocker shafts over
cam follower bearings may be going

you need to protect the valve train as much as possible so a torque cam or '08' cam with DVSK for a softer ride.

the later cam chain tensioner blade and a new cam chain are a must.

hone the bore and new rings minimum. possible B or C grade wossner
little end
special ball will be fine no need for roller
I do the balancer bearings as you know
little end bush will be fecked - bet you can swivel the piston

if you have electric start get the starter repair kit and the carb spruce up kit.

a nice iridium plug and re-set the ignition timing as per the doc and you'll have many thousands of hours of trouble free riding.

you're looking at $600 for a 'jug' so you better check to see if the trashed one can be replated. the inlet valves are $150 each incase you didn't know. hope you were sat down when you just read that.
