FX450 std exhaust modifications?

Hi, I have recently purchased a 2010 FX450 & are very happy with the performance & handling.
The only thing that bothers me is the exhaust seems to be overly restrictive, i have been told there are simple mods that can be made to the OEM exhaust that will increase performance & add a little bark to engine noise.
If so has anybody made this mod & has this improved things? Also does this mod effect fuel injection system?

Hi Juddy
keep the stock it is quit because loud exhaust will only get your neighbor pissed off and another riding area closed
think stealth if they dont hear you they dont know that you are there = neighbor has nothing to bitch about
loud exhaust has a placebo effect but it wont make you go faster

Hi Juddy, We have the parts that are required oem core with promoto blue end cap with removable screen!
Will pass sound test but also quiet core is avalible.

Hi Viking,
Yes i agree but don't want it so loud that it deafens you just loud enough to hear it above the induction noise.
I previously owned a SX450 so just getting used to new Hussy characteristics.

Hi Juddy
I am just givinin my two cents and perseption that people have, I run the acra muffler on mine but intake noise
is still loud it Husaberg trait it is something that you grow used to over time I dont know where you are from
but I think it is global problem, I dont want rain on your parade but a little thought here and there will make big
difference in the long run,

Hi Viking,

Thanks for your reply.I live in New Zealand & are a regular on most weekend trail rides.Hussys are gaining in popularity over here and in time, i am sure there will be plenty more of them about.
After you changed yuor OEM exhaust, did fuel injection system require any additional tuning?

If you change the back pressure significantly you might want to look into a re-map of the computer. It’s likely though, you won’t notice any significant difference. The map switch provides 7 additional map setting you can program into the computer. The USA (and perhaps other) 2010’s have a very lean mapping to pass the California green sticker. If you have this in NZ too, get your dealer to reflash your bike with the “Competition map” a.k.a. the 2009 mapping.
I came off a Yamaha WR 450 with a really loud DrD exhaust system on it. Initially I loved it. Really throaty thump and rumble with a deep loud bark when I opened it up. BUT... I started reading a bit on the subject of noise. They 1st things I read were about how the noise was the biggest complaint and subsequently the most prolific reason cited in the loss of riding sites. Later I started reading about noise fatigue and how it affects the average person in the performance of any given task. It’s actually a fairly serious energy drain on your brain. In a race last yr I spent 5hrs and 44mins listening to that loud pipe. I was really tired at the end of that. It was a tough course but the bike was just too damn loud.
My FE 570 is pretty quiet unless you start to flog on it. The intake noise is much more prevalent than the factory exhaust but the thing I know for sure is the map setting #2 will pull your arms off so I don’t think lack of power is the problem. I think the FX can is different and therefore doesn’t have the same dB-killing bent pipe section at the rear of the can. You can see the description and schematic on-line.
If you still want to get a different can I think the Akro pipe is properly engineered and dyno tested. You might pick up a couple HP and perhaps have a sound that suits you a little better and drop a bit of weight but... How much $$$ are you willing to pay for a different sound and few extra ponies that may not make any difference?
As for me, I’m trying not to piss off the general public and trying to get used to the sound of that intake growl.

The Akra is the go, they have a nice note, weigh phugg all and look good. I had a Barrett on my 08 550 and a White Brothers MX on my YZ450F both were NOISY I mean ear splittingly raspy noisy loud and they used to piss of my riding buddies let alone the neighbours. I cant hear sheet over induction noise anyway, BruceB is pretty well on the money the dealer loaded up the nice map on my 09 and yes its an arm stretcher. It lives on map2 now I have even tucked the switch in behind the headlight its a joke having something that fiddly to use on the bars.

Thanks' i'm pretty sure my bike does have the bent section in rear of can, so to save expense was just looking at possibility of cutting out.I didn't want to modify then find out just created a noisy beast that wouldn't run right.I have also map switch but leave it on setting 2,this bike doesn't have the same aggressive power as the SX but seems to be alot more usable & combined with the excellent handling, i wouldn't consider any other ride.

F+ did it an easier way, pics in his early posts, just cut out a big hole in the endcap and removed the lil bent pipe

you could also gut the whole thing and replace the wonky OEM internal pipes with a 47mm perferated exhaust tube straight through.

aw cmon mines dodgy Steve also had a similar mod done all proper and its looks a milion dollars, pics in his gallery

the big piston goes well... will update other thread soon
