FX450 head removal

The dial indicator is a pain in the arse to set up with the engine in the bike, as is the degree wheel. I found I couldn't get a straight shot at the valve retainer and the flywheel is inboard of the bottom frame rail. I'm going to measure my valve hammer before I put the engine back in the bike.

Thanks. Thought as much. Any chance an extension on the plunger will go through the frame? I'll look into that. I've used CD's with a printed off degree wheel sticker. I'll see how that fits inside and report back.

The main frame spar might still get in the way, I never thought of that. I used piece of high tensile wire and left the degree wheel static with the wire poking through the hole and secured by the flywheel nut. People though I'd lost it.

"People though I'd lost it."

We do what we gotta do and I know what your talking about. ;)

Yeah you can buy extensions. I have one here but may need another. I'll keep you posted.

Cam 81736010133 arrived yesterday. Supposedly the first updated camshaft for the 570 and 500/530 EXC.

Hopefully have it fitted today.

Anyone know the difference between this cam and the later 78736010033 cam Which is the next update? It's from the 2014 onwards 500EXC etc. Any duration changes?

Al.

When I checked part #81736010133 it's Superseded with #78736010033 I'm building up a 450 so I'd also like to know the difference. Though I may not be able to get 817 cam?

81736010133 is the replacement for the 81736010033.

From the research I have done the 033 cam had the back to front decomp, the 133 cam had this corrected.

Then there was the 78736010033 which superceded 81736010033 which carried the updated decomp but was shifted 10*.

81736010033 to
81736010133 to
78736010033

^ This cam is the latest update recommended for the 570. It is the cam for the 2014 onwards 500 EXC.

I now have 2 570 cams, the 81736010033 and the 81736010133. I fitted this 133 cam yesterday and works perfect.

It looks (without confirmation as yet) that you may be able to swap decomp arms. My 450 cam has the correct arm so I'm considering changing the arms which will bring the spec of the other 570 cam (81736010033) up to 133 spec.

It runs and starts well.

With 8 thou off the base of the barrel the CR is suggested to be around 13:1. This along with the hone cost $50.

New Wossner 11.8:1 piston kit.

The Vortex ECU off my 570.

The radiator shrouds have been cut back and 1/2 inch around the seat so the air in is totally unrestricted.

Straight through muffler.

These specs were recommended to me by a mech who used to build the 70 degree bergs for the Finke and Safari's.

This afternoon I will do the TPS adjustment and change the injector.

Hopefully next week I'll get it dynoed.

Rainerio, I bought second hand cams, one from the US and one from Slavenia. They are both in superb condition. No point buying one if they aren't but they are out there. I paid $80 each.

TPS adjusted to 0.351v from 0.358v.

Ultrasonic cleaned injector from the 570 fitted. The 450 didn't have a thimble filter fitted up near the injector. I fitted the 20 micron as it should be.
