FX 470 motor dismounted and half disassembled question.

Hi all,

I have dismounted my motor and have taken the head, and most of the clutch side components off for inspection. I do not know how many hours the bike has on it, but the crank has no play in it. Should I go ahead and split the case? I imagine that I should go ahead and perform the inspection. I am looking forward to hearing from the voice of experience.

Thomas

Greetings Thomas,

Since you have it out and partially dis assembled why not take it the rest of the way down and make sure everything is good. Especially in light of the fact that the number of hours are unknown.

How about some more info on the bike, like what year is it? Where are you from?

have i missed the reason why you have taken it out,you have gone this far split the cases and put some new ones in there make sure to check for any slop in crank(big end)good luck plenty of info here if you get stuck

I pulled the motor to replace parts, and check tolerances. The question is irrelevant now as I have split the case.

I live in Colorado and have recently come into posession of a 2002 470FX. Seems like a pretty good bike. It ran with a horrible noise comming from the motor. I found that the cam chain tensioner was defective. I also found the reason why my starter would engage and slip. Intake valves also need to be redone. The valves seem to have "tuliped". They still look better than the valves on my Honda.

Thomas

I correct my last statement. I have tried to split the cases. I need a more persuasive tool to get the job done. I am now searching "case splitting".

Ah, yes lots of global warming here . This snow is a month earlier than last year, well at least the skiing is very good. You might try contacting thru the PM system a member here "buzzard" he lives just out side Montrose. He is a really great guy and has been Husaberg mounted since 1994 I think. I bought my bike off of him he is currently on an 06 FE450 and his good friend Brett is on an 07 FE550, so he is familiar with your motor. Give him a shout he has been loads of help to me. Stupid question , are you sure you have a problem ? These motors make alot of "mechanical" noises much more so than a jap bike.

There is a grinding noise coming from the motor when it started. I found so far that the cam chain tensioner has chipped off and there are Aluminium flakes in the oil screen. The cam chain was loose. The intake valves need to be redone (seals cut and new valves). Parts list so far is: Cam chain, tensioner with slide plate updated, intake valves, valve springs, a couple of bolts that the previous owner stripped out, etc.

Yup, I went down and purchased the one that was for sale on craigslist. I was looking for a decent project bike. I found it.

RE: Yup.

i emailed the guy about three times and asked him questions about it, and he would never answer all my questions. i took that as a sign that god was steering me away from it. good price tho'. hope it works out for you.

To be honest, I was less than thrilled once I saw the bike. The photos are misleading. I assumed the bike was complete. It was missing a chain and sprocket and a couple of other things that werenot quite right. Oh well, I drove all the way down there and didn't want to come home empty handed.
