so, i bought a used fx 450, 2010 model year. It had the stock cct in it. I ordered a djh type, decided I was going to check the valve clearance while installing it. So, i drained the coolant, which was not your typical green mix, pulled the LT rad and valve cover, had to get a bit thicker exh shim, no big deal. I installed the new cct, the instructions say to tighten it until it feels tight, then run the motor and back off the screw until it gets noisy then go a half turn in. Well, for one, it never feels like it gets tight! due to the location on these 70 degree motors I have to use a long 1/4 extension and get to it from the air filter area so the feel is a bit off, I got it to where I thought it was good ran it, backed off the screw for like 3 turns it never got loud! so, I put the stock cct back in, im not sure about this manual one. Thinking of ordering a dirt tricks instead.
Also, I ran this thing for all of 60 seconds, it was really hot! like on the verge of boiling over. I have a 50/50 green anti freeze in it. I have had jap model 450's in the past, I don't recall them getting that hot that fast. So, my other question is (and I've read the threads on here about the coolant) but can I get away w/ running this coolant? Or is the boiling point too low on this stuff. I don't want to have to install a fan on it, but the guy I bought it from didn't have one on it and he didn't mention anything of it.
As for the oil, he ran rotella t 15/40 in it, thats what I put back in it. Would that attribute to the heat up real fast?
Thanks guys! Haven't even rode this thing yet, its still snowing here in MI. I hope this doesn't turn into a bad buy....
