hi everyone.
i've got dilema, whitch size will work better 19" or 18"on fx 450. i mostly ride woods and technical stuff. i want also make my bike little bit lower. does anyone know differences between this two wheels.

regards

Well Ì don`t think the 18 really lowers the bike much because the 18`s have taller sidewalls. The 19" is a little lighter and I like the way the bike handles with the 19". It feels like it handles a little sharper compared to the 18 on my FE570. I was going to switch over the 19 for an 18 on my new FX450 but I'm glad I didn't I like the way it handles with the 19" plus I seem to remember that alot of Pro offroad racers are switching back to 19's.

Remember the FX450 was basically built at the request of a bunch on the guys racing the bergs. The only real downside on the 19" is its easier to pinch flat compared to a 18". But I run bib mousses so I don't worry about it  Like I always say "you really have to try it for yourself to see if it works for you" But IMO I said keep the 19"

tnx a lot for the answer.
yeah i don't want to spend money on 18" if the diference is small. i'm gonna cut foam to lower my seat and maybe put handlebar spacers to raise forks. i heard u can raise them an 1".

Yeah if you don't really want to spend the money just run a really good heavy duty tube and don't drop your tire pressure below 13psi. I use a factory Husaberg low seat and like it and you could always use a Synergy X-bushing to lower the bike a little in the rear and drop the forks in the triple clamps in the front.

yeah, heavy duty tube it's realy good idea . i'm not sold to x bushing, i've read that you have to do some metal shaving. do you think changing sag will do the trick?. i'm 5'9'' so lowering bike 1'' - 1.5" will be perfect.
i did lower a little my 450 exc r by changing stock rear tire for 120/90/19 michelin but it's not the case with 19" berg wheel. actually i measured my exc r 18"wheel with michelin and fx 450 berg stock tire and there is a diference. my ktm wheel is 5/8" lower then berg wheel. i think with the stock ktm tire 140/80/18 they will be the same.

I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseem. I use the factory low seat and have no problems. If you're 5'9" you wont have any worries. You have to be careful with your race sag. If you run too much to try to lower the bike you'll throw the handling off. The berg's are sensative to race and static sag.

I was going to lower my bikes suspension by an inch. But I worried about screwing up the handling. So I decided to run the lower seat and just concentrate on being a better rider.

true. i'm a bit sceptical about touching suspension.factory setup work well for me. man fx rocks. so far best bike ever. i'm realy glad i didn't bay FE model. i remember how my 2008 exc r ride and compare to the FX it's like day and night. from the begining exc r was to plush for me and bit to heavy in tight woods, so berg is the problem fixer. haha. i took the bike for the first spin this saturday and i love that bike.

Ya I love my FX450, I can't wait for our Enduro racing series to start. Too bad I have to wait till March to finally race it though!

yep racing is cool. i started riding two years ago and i'm 34, so kinda late. all i can be is weekend warrior. but still having fun. :bounce3:

I switched out the 19 on my FX for an 18. I didn't like the lack of drive through sloppy mud or the loss of traction on slick uphills. I switched to an 18 Volant wheel with the same tire only in 18 and immediately gained all the traction I had lost before.

well. most people say it's just preference and i'm not pro rider so i don't know if i will feel the diference. but i do feel huge diference between my bikes 450 EXC R and FX 450 - Rules.

I have 18 and 19" rears

prefer the 18 becasue the IRC M5B 140/80 is an 18 and its grip is the shiznit

the low profile of the 19 is better for jumps it seems more predictable with a lower profile tyre just at the moment the wheel leaves the ground and then in the air, less erratic input from the tyre with the the 19. maybe its just the 18 is more out of balance

weights end up about the same 100gm lighter on average with similar profile 19

for hardpack MX with lots jumps id take the 19, everything else trhe 18

see, the thing is i'm riding versatile terrain and it's hard to decide. i rode two seasons on ktm enduro and just had my first spin on FX 450 so i don't feel diferences between wheels. i had 140/80/18 metzeler originaly on my ktm- no traction but i swap for michelin mc 120/90/18 amazing tire on mud. :bounce3:

hey . so i finished my little project to lower FX 450
1.cut foam seat
2. i put enduro engineering 25mm handlebar spacers and i rised forks 3/4"
now the seat hight is 37 5/8"
i didn't touch rear yet, but i could change sag to drop the bike little more
