Fuel Valve warning - dell orto

Just to let you know that we have lost 5 hours today between two men.

we have had a Husaberg in that needed the carb kit to spruce it up a bit. so usual job, needle, atomiser, fuel valve etc, etc.

we put it on the bike and as usual it leeked a little but we tried to carry on as the vibration of a started bike normally settles the fuel valve and beds it in.

however, after two strips and perfect cleaning we still had the trouble.

in the end I fitted a clear float bowl I have never used in the 30 years I've owned it and basically, even though the float arms stopped the fuel valve at parallel it carried on leeking up all the fuel vents.

so, taking over from the mech I went back to the fuel valve, removed it and then it's 1MM fibre washer.

WELL, IT ISN'T A 1mm FIBRE WASHER! IT'S A PAPER GASKET AND IT IS 0.4MM THICK.

you multiply 0.6 difference by the distance to the end of the arm which is what? about 6 or 8 times to get to the tips of the float arms and that means that the valve is closing nearly 3mm later. I was really surprised at Eurocarb UK's attitude. they couldn't give a monkeys and he said that they would carry on selling them like that because that is how they are supplied!

we lost over half a day to this simple error. couldn't find the dell orto italy e-mail address to give them a piece of my mind.

please pass this info on to anyone whose bought a fuel valve lately. this was fresh stock for me this week so I hope I caught the first one this at the first one....

use the old fibre washer.

that is all

we have this problem in Aus also with car parts, abs rings on driveshafts that dont line up,splines that are loose in hube etc... They supplies do not care and say "we will send it back for warranty it may take a few weeks" so customers car sits there because they wont give you another. So eventually you buy genuine to fix car and make no money! its a greatworld we live in eh!

I feel all these parts are being manufactered in china where they just don't have the required attention to detail,
for me this is JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH! :cuss: :cuss:

this is a very technical issue and we are way over the heads of at least 50% of the people here.

lets get back to gearing....

Hi Taffy,

gues I have the same problem with my 97 600. was driving me crazy. two days no starting would start with one kick running much to rich giving black smoke. and after turning of no way it would gave a single bang starting it engine dead. found that if I turn of the fuel suiply it would start running nicer and after turnoff withour fuel it would start in one kick. Conclusion flooter level to hight. But i cannot get it right, it keeps on goving to much fuel. the carb is a new dellorto 40. do you have any advice?

regards, Marcel (Egypt)

well you could be on the verge of your stator packing up?

but other than that the carb being worn out is an obvious choice. at least it is relatively simple to do!

do the cheap things first. I trust you realise I do a kit for these?

I worked on the bike today again, when I have the feul tab closed for 10 sec before I stop the engine it starts after one kick again. when i open the tab when not running fuel runs out of the ventilation hoses...so gues the fuel valve is not closing it. if i ajust it fuel does not run in anymore. the carb is a new rebuild one that i bought 5 months ago! I am sure it is the carb, is there a better one on the market than this ancient dellorto?

the keihin is a slightly better carb but what you'll probably find is that it is a carb converted from another bike!

as for the rebuild well they obviously weren't experts or they would have changed the fuel valve as well.

Hi Taffy, do I need a 39 or a 41 Keihin fcr. or can i buy it from you, so i just have to install it on the bike!

regards,

Marcel

cheapest option is to send me your carb and I'll recondition it for you OK?

there is a lot of work involved. 2-3 hours work. anyway: up to you?

I would repair yours first everytime.

a keihin with jetting kit is about 225gbp and a 39 would be perfect for your 600.
