Hi Mike,
Simply an option:

Contract a hand made aluminum, carbon fibre or fiberglass unit and have it custom painted to your liking.

Yes, I am indeed serious.

Best Regards,
Dale

Sorry, this was intended as a reply to the Yellow fuel tank thread.

yeah I know ...I just wanted the easy way out of this one, I can rubber mold a tank out of the stock one and then make a three piece carbon unit.
"I can rebuild it, I have the technology" (and the injection mold shop) I just get lazy whenever I got the cash to just buy stuff!-thats probably why the cash never stays around long huh?
ahhhhhhhh wastefull spending, the American way!

Thanks Dale,
Mike

"don't I know there's husaless kids in China that would love to have a yellow tank?"

don't suppose you'd consider making a few 'razorback' re: slimline tanks woth this mould would you mike?

asked clarkes and he said that he sold 400 tanks per week and that he rarely got a call for a husaberg. in the meanwhile new models are always coming out so why get embroiled in a low # bike.

me thinks that there would be lots of people want one. ah well! i can dream!

Taffy,
I could take any tank you want(or any part for that matter) and simply put in a suspension case and pour a 2 piece rubber mold around it. We use the technology for making rubber training rifles for police and military training, but I have made auto and bike parts before with the rubber negative/carbon inlay mold techinque with factory original finish results.
If you are seriouse about making some composite goodies then let me know I will help you, without major concern for profit. The only aspect of building a composite resin based tank I am not currently 100% about is coating the inside of the tank.
Gasolines' corrosive properties colud eat at the resin or carbon materials, mix the feul and form deposits in the floats/jets/combustion chamber, and that would just really suck wouldn't it
It is really a very simple process, Let me mold you!

Ps : Any shape can be made with foam, we can shape, expand, slim, fatten, stretch any sahpe with an original part, some foam, sandpaper and glue.
I could then make the endlessly reusable hard rubber mold.
Witch by the way is as smooth as glass perfectly flawwless!

O.K then,
Mike

Would you be interested in making a larger capacity tank?

I know of 3 guys that would like to have a 3.5 gallon tank that is the same basic shape as o.e.m, just a little taller.

I was already in that frame of mind myself.
I would indeed be interested ,time is scarece right now for us here at Fatal Ind. we are working pretty hard on our international training programs but the mold process will only take 2 days so I believe I could produce at least a ready to laminate mold for you. I can also tell you how to do this yourselves!

I am available at [email protected]- email me and we'll get a phone chat in on the subject O.K.

Here is a site that might contribute some info, the guy makes all kinds of carbon fibre components including fuel tanks.

Carbon Fibre

Mike, is it practical for you to write a description of your mold making process?

Taffy, what ever became of that aluminum tank from Italy you were on to?

carl

oneromoto couldn't speak english and i didn't persue it. i couldn't get any details about anything. there would have been no dialogue.
Q: like will the original taps do?
could you make one with lower sides?
what model are the flaps off?

i couldn't even get them to say what it would hold.

the other company are rigo moto and their english is excellent. they said that the tanks were due imminently. however they have put nothing specific up on their web site and in the meantime i've put £7k in a car and i have flying lessons so....

i have had a quote for a radiator to be made to my spec and i've even been around the paddock this time last year measuring radiators! but you also have to think of the rad louvres, hoses, and the flaps.

I am definitely agree with you that Contract a hand made aluminum, carbon fibre or fiberglass unit and have it custom painted to your liking. It is the best option for the fuel tank for long journey. And there is available in reasonable cost.

I'm sure Dale will be glad to know that you agree with him.

I rode ORANGEBERG'S 650 last weekend with an Omero Moto tank and couldn't believe how much better it felt, it gave me corner feel and abilility that I thought was long gone. I have to have one and will persue it when I get back from holidays. It also made me decide to get rid of my 550 which I was never going to sell and find a 650 to keep, awesome grunt.

From the website http://www.omeromoto.com/special_parts.htm it looks like they are available 400 Euros.
