Fuel pump woes. KTM contact??

I have had my 2010 FE390 for just a few months. It was a "demonstrator" with about 24hrs on it. I only have about 34 hrs on it now. Won't re-start when hot, no noise from fuel pump, etc., etc. Runs fine as long as I don't stall it or shut it down.
The question is: What is the magic formula for getting a response from KTM America customer service? I have called a few times and been transferred to a "technical rep". I always get voicemail and leave a message, but have had no response. The first time I called was at least a month ago.
I know others have gotten replacement pumps sent to them, and that's what I'd like, but no luck even talking to anyone so far.
Anyone???

I just went through the same thing.

The other day when I got the receptionist I mentioned my frustration of getting nothing but voice mail and they never call me back. She asked if I left my VIN number in the message.

So I left another message and gave them my VIN number and a description of my problem. They called back within a few hours. Unfortunately they won't send a replacement pump directly to me - they want to work through my dealer, who is filing a warranty claim. I have no idea how long it will take to get this sorted out, but the rep did say there is a large batch of new pumps due in soon.

Thanks DeeG, maybe I'll give that a try. My selling dealer is no longer a 'berg dealer (but is a KTM dealer). The nearest dealer other than that is several hours away, so I don't know what might happen, but it would be nice if someone would return my calls....

My dealer is 6 hours away, but at least they are willing to help push the paperwork through. Once they get the pump I think they will ship it to me - I hope.

Good luck.

I have been calling that line and leaving messages for two weeks. Thank you for the help and the idea of using the VIN number I will try it out also. I have 27 hours on my bike and the dealership believes it is the pump also but are telling me that I will have more pull than they will with the Warranty Department because now I live 12 hours from the dealer I bought it from. I am hoping that I will have success and that KTM will soon just resolve these problems without the hassle they are putting us loyal Berg customers that are willing to spend the money to own this pristine machine.

My 570 has had problems that last two rides and last ride it wouldn't start at all after the first stop, granted it was 100+ degrees out but I only made it 15-20 min it died. Ripped it apart, came to forums and realized it was happening to everyone and decided to give it a try again. Put it all back together after testing the injectors, spark, lines, battery, and ground and glad that there is a history of these pumps going out. Maybe they will do something about it. Bike started right up but I know I will have the same problem again and I didn't like having to walk out and tow out my bike.

I ordered the aftermarket one from CA-Works and am trying to read up on the best clamps and way to get the non barbed one to stay on until KTM does something for me. lets all cross our fingers.

I have also ordered the CA Cycleworks pump. I worry that it will take weeks to get a replacement warranty pump. If you figure out a good way to connect the hoses, please let me know. I have read of several approaches, some of which didn't work out too well. I have heard suggestions to heat the plastic spout and flare it out, but I haven't heard if anyone has been successful with that idea.

It is frustrating to buy a state-of-the-art bike and be shut down by a silly little fuel pump. I wish they would just bite the bullet and do a total recall. None of my friends would even consider buying a Husaberg due to the fuel pump issue. It is well known and it is hurting their reputation.

The KTM customer service rep shared some frustration from their perspective. He felt that the Internet has caused more warranty replacement requests than normal because it has caused a panic. There may be some truth to that, but the panic was started by real issues that people are dealing with. I am pretty confident my issue is the fuel pump because when it is hot and will not start, I cannot hear the fuel pump cycle when I touch the start button. As I test it while it cools I just tap the button and listen for that pump sound. Once I hear it, the bike will start.

Studying this whole issue helped me out in other ways. I have had intermittent problems with my Suburban. It would randomly just die. I finally noticed that I had the exact same issues the Husaberg's are having with the fuel pump. When the car got hot, the fuel pump wouldn't cycle. So I replaced the fuel pump and it now works great! The things you learn in these forums is awesome!

Ive had the same problems with Husaberg customer service left over 15 messages and no reply back. I will never buy another Husaberg again due to their non existent customer service. You would think they would rectify the problem and at the very least call back and let me know what the situation is on the backordered fuel pumps. They really dropped the ball on this screw up and Im sure my comments along with others with the same issues will keep quite a few people from buying their product. Its a great bike aside from the fuel pump issue but the non existant customer service really has me furious. 2010 fx450.

I tried every day multiple times for over a week before I got a call back. It was made clear that they (mike g :cuss: ) couldn't believe all the fuel pump problems and blamed internet forums for providing us on what to say. My bike is getting worse every time I ride it. It started with the hot no restart after riding for 30 min or so, then started shutting off if I rode with less than a half a tank of fuel for 30 mins and now even with a full tank of fuel it will only run for about a half hour. I don't have a dealer in the country I live but bought my bike in the states and Mike G told me i would have to bring it to a dealer to verify my fuel pump is bad.I am waiting for clamps and an aftermarket pump to arrive so I can fix myself. I also will not buy another KTM. Shame on KTM on blaming the forum for their inferior junk

There is only one way for Husaberg / KTM to get the message. Vote with your wallet. I will never buy another Husaberg / KTM product.

Well, I've nearly given up on KTM. After leaving several messages for the "technical service" reps, I finally called again and when the first **** answered the phone, I told her of my problems and lack of a call back. She took all of my info (VIN# etc.) and said that she would give it directly to one of the reps so that they would call me back. That was Tuesday of last week---nothing.

There is a SETRA harescramble about 10 miles from my house on Sunday 8/28 and I'm not going to sit this one out or have my bike die in the woods. From the sound of it, the pumps are so far backlogged that I would be lucky to get one within the next few months anyway.

So today I ordered the CA Cycleworks pump from California. I am in SC, so KTM-parts.com is much closer, but they are backordered on the CA Cycleworks pump (big surprise!). Pump should be here on Thursday, so I can install per some of the great instructions that I've seen here and do a serious field test in competition on Sunday. Wish me luck!

For what its worth, the **** at Cycleworks (Candice) was very helpful and made sure that the pump was shipped UPS 3 day so that I would have it when I wanted. She also shared the fact that one of their engineering guys (Chris?) was aware of the non-barbed pump output issue and was working on some solutions and recommended install methods. She suggested that I call back later in the day and speak with him. Apparently, he works a later schedule. I got busy and was not able to call him today, but maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Same thing for me with Husaberg "Customer Service". Boy that's a misnomer. There is no customer service about it. It's more like "I don't give a damn and if I get around to it I might call back, but probably not". Honestly, how hard is it to call and acknowledge the fact that you left a message? Isn't that the tech reps job? I don't care if they tell me that the f'in pump is back ordered, at least I would have confirmation of some acknowledgement of my problem. The only bright side in this is that I bought a 300 XC so I don't have to ride berg right now and don't have to worry about crappy fuel pumps.

Does anyone know the mailing address for KTM/Husaberg? Perhaps some old fashioned letters might help wake them up.

I have been waiting one month for my replacement pump. It is supposed to come this week, but I am not confident that it will.

None of my friends would even consider buying a Husaberg due to all of the fuel pump issues. And I can't recommend one to them right now. Too bad, because if it were reliable this would be the perfect bike for many of them (including me).

My 390 showed pump issues on the first ride, but has been fine since. My dealer told me there is a service bulletin about the pumps. KTM has a pass/fail test that they ask the service departments to conduct. My guess is that it involves running the bike for X minutes until it's good and hot, and then seeing if it restarts.

My dealer said that KTM said to hold off on bringing bikes in for now, as there is a backorder on pumps anyway.

For now, my bike is awesome and has no pump issues. Ive got the CA pump sitting in the garageif I need it. It's a pretty cheap fix if I need it.

Don't let this glitch put you off. Worst case scenario is that you buy a $125 aftermarket pump. If yours is really hooped, Husaberg will likely replace it.

BTW - have you replaced your filters? My screen was 80% clogged despite rinsing the tank from new.

Guys, Stick with it. I have had no success with the KTM line and I am 8-12 hours from the nearest Dealer for Husaberg. I bought it when close and then transfered work locations. Be patient with the dealer. I finally got a hold of the regional rep via the dealer after letting them know every few days that I still hadn't received a response from the 15+ messages over 2-3 weeks but finally the dealer stepped in to help. I think they got tired of the calls and felt bad for me seeing my bike only have a few more than 20 hours on the bike. Either way they are shipping me a new one and I am sending them the old one.

Update on the new aftermarket one. It works wonderfully and If you really do dremel down the after market one to fit tightly you can easily use the old fuel likes so you dont have to use the special fuel lines. We have been on 3 rides now on the aftermarket pump in 105-110 degree weather. Yes the gas gets hot and the bike does too but it is working amazing so far.

I will be using the new one as a back up and always keep an extra one in stock. :)

Good luck to all of you but don't lose hope. They will hear us. :) :bounce3:

Wanted to post an update to my previous post regarding the Harescramble race with the newly installed Cycleworks pump. First of all--I ordered the pump directly from Cycleworks in CA on Monday and had it via UPS 3 day select on Wednesday (1 day early!). Many thanks to the helpful young **** at CA Cycleworks. Their customer service was awesome! Wish I could say the same for KTM.

Did all this on Friday and had a successful test ride/re-start.

Raced the bike on Sunday in awful conditions. 97 degree heat with ridiculous humidity. Tight, tight, tight, singletrack, mostly 1st and 2nd gear. It hasn't rained here in months, so the dust was unbearable--making visibility tough and speeds even slower. I don't have a fan or any sort of tank insulation (hope to remedy those issues soon). Bike has comp mapping and what I believe is the better silencer (Krizman type) with spark arrestor screen removed.

I stalled the bike numerous times while it was fully heat-soaked. No real re-start issues. Pump was always humming as it should. Too bad I nearly passed out!

I also talked to two other Husaberg riders there. Both on 2010's (a 390 and a 450). Both had already been through all the same stuff as the rest of us and had their pumps replaced under warranty by the dealer. Don't know if they got the updated pumps or not, but they both finished the race miles ahead of me.

Have never gotten a return call from KTM "customer service." Don't want to give up, because I'd like the updated factory setup--but come on--this ludicrous! The least they could do is call to tell me "tough luck."
